Next step for prospective DJs?

So here's where we're at:

We've researched some DJs and have narrowed it down to 3 that we're interested in (based off price and reviews from weddingwire).  We've cooresponded through e-mail so far.

What's the next step?  Do we call them and discuss what we have in mind for our ceremony/reception?  Or do we set up F2F meetings with each of them? 

I have to add that the music is very important to us.  We have a "don't play" list that is about 15 songs strong, and a "do play" list that is at least that long- and it's full of songs that I'm sure a lot of people haven't heard of.  It's very important to us to find someone that will listen to our resquests, but will also find a way to factor in our Wants in the most croud-pleasing way possible.

Given that info- what's your take?

    Music is such a big deal when it comes to weddings.  It is where the most fun is: Dancing!  Anyways, to answer your question, I would set up meetings with them, so you can talk to them personally and get to know their personality.  You never want a bad dj.  Let them know your play lists that you have, and make sure they are not to over the top as a dj.

    We met with two prospective DJs in person. It was so important to get a feel of what they would do for a wedding and what their personalities were like. We were easily able to pick one of them based on how we felt when we were with him.

    I met with my DJ in person, and I only met with him because I was sold after our first meeting. I think it is really important to meet with them in person and to get a feel for their personality. The entertainment is the most important part in my opinion. I wanted people to leave my wedding going wow that was one of the most fun weddings I have ever been to. And not leaving right after dinner because wow this is the most boring meeitng I have ever been to.

    For me this was a place that I splurged and went over budget on, but I really felt that it was completely worth it. Good luck.
