Just engaged and needing advice

My fiancee and I have been together for 3 years on the 4th of this month. He proposed to me on the 6th. We decided that we are going to just go to the little bell chapel in Bellefonte that is 35 miles from Branson, MO. That is where his dad and step-mom got married and we decide that would be easy on us but we are having to wait and save up money for the wedding and for the Honeymoon. We are wanting to spend a week in Branson, MO and just don't know how much it would cost and what all they have there. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things to do and see and the prices. Even though we are going to a little chapel, I still want a dress. It doesn't even have to be a wedding gown just something beautiful. I am a plust size woman and was wondering if anyone knows of any places around the greenbrier, conway area.  Also my family all know it is going to be just us but now they are demanding that we have a wedding reception when we get back. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make it cheap as well would be greatly appreciated. This is my 2nd marriage and my fiancee's first. I just want it to be a special day for both of us. Everything was fine until now Im having to throw a reception. I am just happy to be marrying my best friend. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated!Smile

Having a reception afterwards with your family is a great idea and to get an inexpensive place would be pretty simple. Go to arkansasstateparks.com and find a park near you or just go to a city park. You could have a simple, picnic style reception and just play music from a stereo. However, this depends on what time of year you plan to have the wedding ;) Good luck!

I know it may sound not so romantic, but you could hold it at a really pretty backyard, like your own or a family member's.  You could decorate with lights and flower pedals. Check after X mas time for lights to be discounted. You could have hamburgers and hotdogs or BBQ, besides marriage is all about love, not money. Your family will understand why you don't want to/ can't afford to have a huge reception. It's just a good time with close friends and family. In branson you can shop like crazy. Visit Titanic museum, wax museum, Ripley's Believe it or Not, go to Dixie Stampede, and maybe even a Hee Haw if you're into that sort of thing. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! I appreciate it. We are not able to do much for our wedding at this moment because we are wanting to get a place first. I can't put up with living with my parents much longer. I am also working on loosing weight. I dont know who is more excited, me or my fiancee. He came home the other day with brochures to Branson. There is a lot of neat stuff to do there. I am really considering the Dixie Stampede. Thanks for the advice on going there. I looked at the brochure and it looks like it might be a lot of fun. I am workig on making a list of people to invite to the reception now. However my fiancee is not giving me a list yet. He is such a pain at times LOL. I want him to invite some of his friends but he is afraid to invite them because he didn't go to their weddings. I wish that I knew what to do for him. I feel he should at least invite them and if they choose not to come then that is there choice and I wouldn't blame them. I just think he should give them the chance to decide if they want to come or not. I just started a new job and at this time am not getting very many hours. Only 14 a week. I am hoping to get more people to take care of so that I can at least get closer to 40. If anyone has any other advice on anything for the wedding then just leave me a message. I am open to anything. Thanks!

How did I get so lucky? I made a list with a few wedding movies on it and my wonderful finacee got them all for me. He is truly amazing! I look forward to the day that I get to walk towards him and know that I am going to be spending the rest of my life with the man who always puts me first and makes sure that my boys and I are taken care of. I am sorry that I am going on but to have someone treat me the way that he does is amazing. I am not used to having someone actually put me first. My first marriage was a huge mistake. He always put himself ahead of even our two boys and I was the one always having to work to make sure they had what they wanted and the ex had everything he wanted. Now I have a partner who is interested in things for us and not just himself. I am truly marrying my best friend. I just hope that I can give him a wonderful wedding and show him the rest of my life what he means to me. Any advice to make this a memorable weddig will be appreciated still.

Thaks for all of the info. Sorry I haven't been on in a few days to thank yall but I have been busy with my new job and my kids. I am a plus size bride at this time but have been dieting since January and have lost 34lbs. I am so excited for every way in to see the scales going down. I would love to loose 34 more lbs or more if possible before my wedding. At least then I would be closer to normal. I am so glad that I am not getting married anytime soon. I almost poked my eye out yesterday when I walked into a tree limb. Now I have a black place on my eyelid where the limb broke and scratched it. I am just glad that I didn't poke my eye out. I hope that I dont have this kind of luck when it does come time to walk to my wonderful groom.  I keep forgetting about it until I go and rub my eye on accident. I hope that all of you other brides are doing well! I am just so excited about the weight loss that I had to share it. Yall take care and have a wonderful day!

I don't know if I should scream or cry. My fiancee wont help me with anything. I asked him what colors he likes because I would like to buy things as I can. He just jokes about everything. He is more into his radios then he is in our wedding. I know we don't have a date set but why can't he just put some input in every once in a while? Did anyone else have trouble getting their fiancees to help them? How did you get him to help you? I am so frustrated. I can't wait until he comes around. His best friend is trying to get him on at the same job and i really hope that  he gets it. It would be great money coming in. I know that he would enjoy working with his best friend.  Maybe soon we will get some good news soon.

My wedding date maybe sooner then I thought. My fiancee went for a job interview at his best friends work and has a great chance that he is going to get hired on. He is now on the phone with his friend talking and I heard him tell him that we maybe getting married in 2 to 3 months. It is exciting but makes me feel like Im behind. LOL. With my fiancee you never can tell what is going on. I am so proud of him for getting up and going for the job interview. I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him. He is just so amazing!

First of all, congratulations!  Don't sweat all the details, your day will come off without a hitch.  My fiance and I are getting married on the way to Branson as well, at the Ozark Mountain Wedding Chapel in Western Grove.  We are spending 4 days in Branson.  We are just staying at a local hotel with a jacuzzi in the room.  We plan to take in a couple of shows and simply enjoy our time away from work, home, responsibilities, etc.  Since this is a 2nd wedding for both of us, he is wearing a black suit with purple shirt, black/purple/ivory tie.  I'm wearing a black chiffon skirt with black/ivory top and my bouquet (which I made is various shades of purple with pink).  We are on a very tight budget but we are making the day all about "us" therefore it will be special in it's own way.  It will just be the 2 of us at our ceremony but we are having pictures taken & a video of the ceremony to share with family/friends when we get back.  You might want to look at various prom dresses for your dress.  I actually got my dress at Burlington Coat Factory (I'm plus size also).  Wear what makes you feel pretty, personlize your day with things that are special to the 2 of you and just BREATHE!!  Enjoy this special day with this wonderful person you are sharing your life with.

Thank you for the advice. I have been so busy with work and my kids school that I have had to just quit planning anything. I am going to start saving up a big portion out of my checks, after I pay our bills, to help pay for anything that we want to do for our wedding. I am still as excited as I was when he proposed but now that im working, it just kind of is put on the back burner. Im just going to wait until my fiancee starts getting ready for us to get married. We dont get to see each other very much right now except for a couple of hours at night after he gets off from work but it works for us. Right now we aren't planning on having a reception because he refused to invite anyone from his side, so I decided that we dont have to have one at all. I dont want to have just my family around. It dont matter anyway because in the end we are going to be husband and wife. He has for over a year called us team Anderson. He knows any time that I am feeling down, all he has to do is say that and I can't help but smile. We may eventually change our mind about the receptions but like I said its not big deal to me. I don't feel as stressed as I did before and now I just focus on us. Well have a wonderful day!
