Appts for dress shopping

I just made appts for dress shopping. So far just 2 and I'm hoping I find the one I love that day! I am nervous because 1 I am super picky I have an idea of what I want but again I'm picky especially when I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a gown to be worn once! And 2 fmil will be meeting my birth mother for the first time then. What should I be looking for in my person who is helping me? This may sound stupid but are the appts anything like the shows on tv lol I had to ask cause if they offer me wine or champagne I'll need two glasses lol

Re: Appts for dress shopping

  • The store I went to in NH was one of the nicest stores in the state and they didn't have champagne.  I think you have to go to one of the high end mega stores of designer shops to get that (maybe?).

Are you asking what to look for in a consultant?  You don't ususally get to choose your consultant.

  • DB didn't give me wine or champagne, I don't know if any other bridal stores do that or not- I'd be nervous about spilling on the dresses lol.

My appointment was nothing like the ones on SYTTD. Usually, they're more low key. I guess the most important thing in a consultant is that they 'get you' while at the same time encourage you to try things if you're not finding what you want.

  • Yay!! So exciting!!

We switched our original date due to money issues, so I happen to already have my dress. From my personal experience, I'd imagine the whole refreshment thing depends entirely on the salon. I bought my gown from a little local boutique owned by a sweet little old Italian lady and her siblings so we weren't offered champagne but when I had a coughing fit due to having a cold coming on, she ran up to her apartment and brought me down a cup of tea :)

And although potential family drama can be nerve-wracking, it's probably worse in your head than it will turn out to be. They're both adults, both know how to act like ladies, and both love you and will want to enjoy this experience with you and make sure YOU enjoy it as well. Even if they don't leave as new BFFs, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

I've been to 5 dress shops (in Philly, Delaware, NJ, & NYC) & none offered champagne.

Your consultant will ask you if you know what you're looking for. I really suggest being open-minded & trying on every different style dress possible, you'll be surprised at how different things look on you. I was never pushed to go outside of my budget & I didn't feel pressured to make a purchase anywhere I went which was really nice because I've heard horror stories about certain dress shops in NYC (I'm sure you can guess which).

I would say go in with an open mind and have fun with it! This isn't something we get to do everyday and such a special memory. I wish I didn't find my dress already just so I could keep going to salons and putting more dresses on! lol.
I went to a couple of high end bridal salons in NYC, including Kleinfelds and none offered champagne.  Although my sister took me out after I found my dress to celebrate with champagne. :)
  • I know I don't plan on spending enough on a dress to be offered champagne ;)

I had a list of everything I wanted in a dress, but what I have picked out is nothing like I had imagined... Just remember you dont have to make a decision if you don't want to. Take pictures home with you and come back another day if necessary.

  • I went to 7 birdal salons and no champange even though 2 of the places I went, I needed it! Just make sure you have a budget and stick with it. Also it is about you and fiance, pick what you feel amazing in. My mother and I had 2 different views on what I woulod be wearing, but we went with the one I loved :)

Dang the champagne is a bummer lol I'm kind of surprised Kleinfelds didn't though lol

The two appts I have I doubt they will offer it too lol

I am excited that Alfred Angelo's offers military discount I just need FI's ID and I save 15% which allows me to increase my budget a smidgen lol I do have a set budget with very little wiggle room.
