"Bad luck"...

So on Saturday Things Remebered had a little bridal event where if you could prove you were engaged by your facebook status (how silly...lol) you got a free keychain thing with your new name engraved in it. I thought they were cute so FI and I went and got one. FI tells his mom and she and FSIL about had a cow because it's "bad luck". I just laughed and said obviously FI don't believe in bad luck... if we did looks like we are only going to last about a month cause we're getting married in a year that ends in 13, seeing each other before the ceremony, and now this. Darn. lol

I just think the whole "bad luck" thing is silly Tongue Out Any of you ladies hearing it too?

  • Funny you say that. We are getting a new computer software system in April of 2013 and today my boss asked if I was changing my name when we get married. I said yes, so in the new system it will show my new last name for a month before the wedding, as well change my e-mail address. It should be interesting when I sign my name and forget I am suppose to a month ahead. O well gives me the oportunity to try out the name and get my signing of the last name right!

  • I hear these things all the time! And about such silly things! For example, my friends and I like to cross stitch, and sometimes we make long strips and get them made into belts. Well, you apparently cannot make one for a boyfriend or a FI because you won't end up together/married. WHAT?! The women at the cross stitching store will even WARN you about this. Seriously.

And then there's the whole, "Don't try on someone else's engagement ring! It's bad luck!" Where do people come up with these things?

  • I'm cursed then, but if my FI can make it through what we've been through so far we'll have no problems.

The ONLY thing that we're not doing because of the "bad luck" portion is the VERY OLD SCHOOL beliefe that the bride should never walk down the isle to her groom before the ceremony. Although a rehearsel apparently it's bad luck -  my gram thinks she's in the old country. LOL. SOOOOOOO, it all kind of works out because we're not doing a rehearsel dinner (people hate having to leave work early and find an outfit blah blah) and just opting for a picnic (we're getting married on a Sunday) the day before with family including children since we're not having kids or anyone under 21 at the reception.

I find that I'm more prone to encourage people of the "bad lucks" associated with having a baby versus that of a wedding.

I guess we are DOOMED!!!! lol we are breaking all kinds of rules...

    1. We are staying are staying together the night before and will be hanging out all day on the day of.
    2. We will see each other before the wedding.
    3. We may walk down the aisle together (since it's just going to be us...)

  • My future in-laws are from a very VERY traditional family and I don't know if they really believe in luck or if their main motivation is tradition for the sake of tradition. Either way is stupid. She's already giving us sh*t for having the wedding be all-vegetarian, secular, and that we're paying for all of it ourselves.

Because of a physical disability I can't wear my ring all the time, and some people have been reacting weirdly to it. I don't NEED a ring to know I'm engaged!
