I thought about it after I had already spent a fortune on glass stone vase filler.  I never did the math to see which would have been cheaper though (I had 12 large margarita glasses to fill).  I saw some in a dollar store, but I'm not sure how much I'd trust them (they were not in expanded form).

I never played around with the beads, but I will tell you that a container with glass stones, water, and a submersible light looks really cool.

JoAnns definitely has them.  They have jars with beads that have already been expanded and packages of beads that are dehydrated.  They have them in lots of colors too.  They also have really cool submersible lights that glow a variety of different colors (white, red, pink, green, light and dark blue) or blink through all the colors.

Just a Buck in Saco was the place I saw them for $1.

I'm sure the other craft stores have them too - I just never spent enough time in their floral/vase filler departments to notice them!

just a heads up if you haven't bought them already... i saw some at the dollar store along with a bunch of awesome glass vases (tall ones too) and they were only $1... so that's awesome when you have to buy a million of them haha.  i bought a bunch of rocks for fillers for my vases while i was there, but i saw a whole bunch of them there!  hope that helps!

I actually saw a picture of those water beads with a colored led light at the bottom when i was flipping through bridal mags the other day... i seriously thought it was the coolest thing ever!  very club looking and modern
