  • i don't think it's ever too early to start with small things like what you would want to do for centerpieces or invitations or other stuff like that but some big things that could change or go out of business like the venue or dress i wouldn't start until around a year before the wedding date.

  • Make sure you don't ask your wedding party until 6-8 months before, just in case. Venues and officiants I think are good to get booked as early as possible, but everything else can wait a few months. Enjoy being engaged!

  • Uh, ok. Asking other people to choose your wedding date really does nothing to help you. How are we going to know what else you may have going on in your life, other family events, etc. There are so many more factors to picking a date than asking random people on the internet.
  • While I do not think it is too early to start getting an idea of what you want I also do not think it will take you more than a year to plan your wedding. Unless the venue, church, dj or photographer you want are very popular and likely to be booked if you wait til July to book then I would hold off til it is a little closer to a year out to book things. What you want may change the more you look so you don't want to regret anything because you decided too soon.
  • @ missysue20 Why do you have to be so rude, clearly you had questions as well so how dare you fault me for trying to get others input. And if you noticed I askd when should I start planning. I would really appriciate it if you wouldn't comment on any more of my posts bcuz you've been rude on both. Thnx and have a great day. As far as everyone else thnx for your advice
  • I honestly would start looking at venues and officients now!  We booked our venue 22 months in advance and they're 75% booked through 2012 already.  Our officient also has about 20 weddings booked for 2012 already.

  • I booked about 18 months in advance and everything was wide open for the month of my choice and we're locking in current prices.  So for the big stuff (photographer, venue, etc.) it can't hurt to book early if you're sure of what you want.  If you or your fiance changes your mind easily you might want to wait until closer to a year out.

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

This makes no since to me. Why start with small things? You can't know what you want for center pieces if you don't know what the venue looks like.

and OP, you are rude too. You aren't making very many friends around here.

  • I don't really know how to plane a wedding, sorry.
  • I don't feel it's too early to start thinking of ideas that you want incorporated into your wedding as far as the colors, your wedding party, indoor/outdoor, etc (which can be considered the "small things." ) I agree the larger things (venue, photographer, flowers, etc) can wait to be arranged about a year before.
My fiance and I are planning to get married on 4/28/12 and I've already been to two places to try on weddings dresses, and am pretty close to the final decision on my colors and also the venue. I tend to be indecisive though so I'm glad we are giving ourselves plenty of time to sort out what we really want and also what we can afford. But of course everyone is different! There are many things to take into consideration for your wedding. It's all about what you are most happy and comfortable with. It's best to do a lot of research to try and figure that out. Although I'm also still very new at this so I have a lot to learn!
And don't be discouraged by people telling you it's too early (or even the people who misread what you write) ; )

    Bawahahahah! <div>
</div><div>Also, it'd be wise to book a venue if the place you want is popular. Other than that, I'd suggest waiting a while. . . like a year to do anything else.</div>

Wait until you graduate from eighth grade before you plan anything.  (Given the way you communicate, you leave me no choice but to assume that you're 13 and typed this up on your cell phone during study hall.)

P.S. If you think people are being too mean about this, may I point out that the FAQ specifically asks you to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation to better facilitate people reading and responding to your posts.  These are for everyday use, not just special occasions, so don't be shy.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.

  • My wedding is May 2012 and I haven't done anything that is set in stone. I would wait until you're a year out before you start signing contracts and buying things. I've picked my colors, invitations, favors, flowers I like, centerpeice ideas and stuff like that. I've also written down florists, photographers, venues and djs I want to meet with when it gets a little closer to the date. Just enjoy your engagement and don't start to soon or you might make some decisions you can't take back.
