Thoughts on Wedding Party Procession

I'm getting married on the beach in May, and most of the BIG planning is done, so now it's on to the little details.

We're getting married on the beach behind the event home where our reception will take place. There are stairs that go over the sand dune from the back patio to the beach.

Now, it's been awhile since I've been there so I can't honestly remember HOW MANY stairs... but there are stairs to navigate.

I'm worried about my flower girls tripping or falling down the stairs. They're going to either be tossing lavender (looooooove the smell of lavender) or just waving ribbon wands.

So which do you suggest:

Have each flower girl be escorted down the stairs by a bridesmaid and groomsman (if the stairway is big enough) - we have four of each, so it could work...

OR

Have the flower girls waiting at the bottom of the stairs and just follow the maid of honor and best man?

Re: Thoughts on Wedding Party Procession

  • Be careful of lavender. Some people are deathly allergic to that.

I would have them wait at the bottom of the stairs.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Ditto bottom of the stairs.  The last thing you want is a kid to hurt themselves.
  • HOLY CRAP

Alright, f*ck it. They're getting ribbon wands. Again, this is why I come to The Knot. I never knew lavender was a common allergy (it's not like they're throwing peanuts...) so holy jesus, I'm glad I put that out there.

Ribbon wands. Bottom of the stairs. I think I may still have them escorted by a bridesmaid and groomsman, because I'm worried about little legs waddling in the sand.

  • Luckily, my officiant is letting us do a rehearsal the day before, so we can kind of tweak these things then.

But seriously. Lavender. I never knew.

  • i'd agree with escorting them. little kids + sand = tripping and/or playtime.  =)
  • I'd be fine with playtime, but not with anyone tripping or getting hurt. There are only supposed to be HAPPY TEARS!!!
