Welcome Bag ideas?

I'm not really sure if this is an etiquette question, but what are some ideas for welcome bags and about how much should be spent on them? I'm not really sure where to begin with this. Thanks so much!

Cape Cod wedding:  CC potatoe chips, Nantucke Nectre, salt water taffy, local maps & events, asprin, gum, cranberry candies, etc.
  • fruit snacks... it's all about the fruit snacks.

  • We're doing water bottles, snacks like pretzels, cheez-its, etc, and I picked up some of those "Visitor Guide" maps from a local hotel to put in with it. It has a map of the area and things to do like restaurants and whatnot that are close by. How much you spend is all dependent on your budget. Mine will probably be less then $5 a person.

Some other things I've received in welcome baskets:
    - Chapstick
    - Asprin or tums
    - Welcome note from the couple with personal recommendations for things to do
    - Itinerary for the week (nothing mandatory just things people could do like a baseball game)
    - Candy
    - Small personal products
    - Souvenir type things from the area
  • Some of our stuff is specific to the NYC area: Train schedule and transit map for sure, maybe I'll splurge and include a cute NYC keychain too.  I don't know yet, we're still a ways out.  I might make a customized map including driving directions for getting from the hotel to the venue and to the Friday night dinner (for those who are invited/will be in town).  If my FMIL does something for OOT guests on Saturday night too I'll put that on the map as well.  That's totally up to her though, since my FI and I are hiding that night.

  • I had fun with our welcome bags, because I love getting them :)  Our guests loved them because all of the people staying at the hotel were OOT, so they appreciated the surprise.

We did hot pink bags with black ribbons (our wedding colors) and filled them with snacks:
    -Two bottles of water
    -Crackers with peanut butter/cheese
    -Chips
    -Assorted candy

Then we also placed a car flag (the kind that clicks onto your window) in the bag, since our OOT guests were spending Thanksgiving with us and following us to the place for dinner. A lot of people liked those. I also placed an itinerary of events in the bag, with shuttle times to and from the church and reception hall.

On the front of the bag we taped "Welcome to NJ" postcards and I handwrote a generic welcome/thank you message on each.  I think they can be printed from any state.
