June 2012 Weddings

Not sure what to do here. Registry question.

Fiance and I already live together, so that means we have everything we would need for a place.

My bridesmaids still want to throw a bridal shower, but what could I say for gifts and things like that?

Re: Not sure what to do here. Registry question.

  • Do a small registry of things you like and guests should get the hint to give cash
  • Is there anything you have had for a while and could replace or upgrade? New hand towels, bathroom towels, dish towels and the like are always nice to get.

  • Is there anything you can upgrade? Our stuff is nice enough but we're using this as an opportunity to upgrade. Some things are also stuff we wouldn't buy on our own, but we think they'd be nice to have. Amazon.com does registries and you can register or anything.

This. Upgrades are always good to look into.
  • I could look and see what we could upgrade too.  I am really not sure. I will have to look.  We decided if we were going to register, it'd only be at one place.  I just didn't want it to sound rude if I said cash.

You cant *say* cash.... but people will get the hint if you have small-ish registry. If you are having a shower, I would for sure try to register for some stuff.

This. My FI and I have both in on our own for 6 plus years. We both have a lot of stuff actually X2. We upgraded a few things and of course can always use new towels and sheets. Our parents know our situation as do most of our guests. But it is considered very rude to say cast....especially for a shower when the purpose of a shower is to "shower you with gifts."

  • Got it.

We will register for a few things and upgrade.  Thank y'all so MUCH!!
  • Good luck! Also, don't feel the need to register for a thousand things or stuff you don't need.  If your registry runs dry people will be creative for your shower.  Some people will buy off the registry regardless.

agree. You can't ask for cash from your guests. Having a small registry will give your guests a hint to give cash

  • FI and I are in the same situation. You wouldn't believe how many thing we saw that we wanted to register for. I was really worried and some how we managed to get over 200 things on our registry. A lot of it is stuff that we normally would never buy but would be cool to have.

This.  Create a small registry of stuff you would like upgraded and then go from there.

  • I think a small registry to cover shower stuff if you have a shower is necessary. Most people don't want to go to a shower if the bride only wants cash. The point is to "shower" the couple with gifts.

  • I would do a small registry. Maybe add some fine china and special occasion glasses and stuff like that. Also like some of the other posts suggested add anything that you have had for a while and could use an upgrade. It is also ok to mention gift cards on there too. I know some may feel it is tacky but the way I look at it is, it gives you the chance to get what you want when you need it.

  • Just think of everything you have wanted to buy but could not bring yourself to justify buying it. :)

Like the Soda Stream on my registry. Do I need it? Not really, but it is SO RAD!

  • I agree with PP's.  We are in the same boat but bought some things to upgrade.  For example, we got new silverware for Christmas last year, but it's starting to rust a bit (stupid hard water) so we registered for new silverware.  Also, register for things you wouldn't bring yourself to buy yourself.  Register for that new down comforter or new pillows, or maybe some house decorations.
  • New towels and sheets are always nice! Are your dishes chipped and needing replacing? Is there a mixer/crockpot/toaster/pot rack that you have had your eye on but just couldn't justify buying for yourself?
