Spray tan update

Well... I don't look orange!

It did give me a nice natural looking color... only problem is my arms are a little blotchy in spots and somehow a whole portion of each arm didn't get color (like the underside of my forearm)

I think I may not have been keeping my arms in the same position throughout the process.

I don't think I'll do it again right before the wedding :(

I'd better get some real sun over the weekend!

Re: Spray tan update

  • I used the Jergen's self tanning or what ever lotion...and it made me streaky...never again!! I'm glad I tried it out way before the wedding...I'll stick to natural sun!! 3 weeks to bring on more tan!!!
  • meggles, did you exfoliate before you went? I usually do a body scrub before I do a spray tan or self tanner to make sure my skin is smooth and even.

  • Yes, I did exfoliate.  Used a body scrub and loofa!

Like I said, I think my arms didn't get sprayed properly because I may not have been keeping them in the proper position the whole time :(

  • I actually like the Jergens self tanner. I think it's very effective and natural looking, plus better for the skin than the sun. But... I guess nothing is going to be more natural looking than the good ol' sun!

  • When I get spray tan, as soon as I get out of the booth instead of toweling off I rub it in everywhere that way I make sure it's even and I dont miss any spots. Just need to make sure you wash your hands really well after that.

  • Another option.....

You could do a spray tan that someone sprays on you. I think it would be better because a.) I believe there are more shades. You'd be able to talk to someone and tell them what you're looking for. The mystic spray tan booths have only two colors (at least the few that I've done.) and b.) someone is spraying it on so there wouldn't be any missing areas or streaks.

That's what I've done and it's awesome. The people who spray tan you with airbrushes are super careful AND it's very natural looking.

  • yes...when I do it, I go somewhere with an air can thing. The person goes in a little booth with you and actually sprays you. The place I go has about 6 different color options - I do something like a 3, which they say is similar to spending 3 or 4 days in the Caribbean :) I felt awkward the first time I did it when the lady went in to spray my boobs, but you get used to it hahaha!

I have done Mystic and it just didn't come out as nice - splotches of no color, spots with too much color, staining on my feet....it will make you look good for a night of just going out to the bars and wanting to look pretty, but I wouldn't do it for my own wedding!

Yes! Exfoliation is very important. And I think they do less spray under forearms because that is naturally how the sun would tan you. Just like how your forehead, nose and chin get more sun than your cheeks and neck.
  • I'm so glad you didn't get orange! I'm tempted to try it now! Since you said it's blotchy- I like Dawnleanna's advice about rubbing it in, but as a precaution I'd buy some did tan lotion in a bottle too, so that you could touch up any spots that need it.  I'd probably practice with some type of self-tanner now so you can see how the color compares to the salon's.
