Addressing Invites?

How are you ladies addressing your invitations? Are you using a label or hand writing the addresses? Using a calligrapher is out for me due to price, but I read on the invitation/etiquette board you should not use labels? We were planning to use clear labels as our envelopes are puple, and I really have no desire to hand write them all out. What are you all doing?

Re: Addressing Invites?

  • Luckily my sister volunteered to do the addressing, my handwriting is atrocious. I bought a stamp to do the return address and the RSVP envelope address.

I think the big problem with the labels is that they can pull up and get dirt stuck under them in transit. They also just look less fancy so it depends on how formal your wedding is.

  • We are also working within budget constraints, so we said screw etiquette and got white labels that we could print at home. They look really nice, and I don't give a damn if my relatives give a damn about whether we printed a label or hired a calligrapher.
  • I got clear labels so it looks like the writing is right on the envelope and that way I can use the exact font I've used for everything else (to keep it consistent).
My envelopes would require a special to be written on and there was no way I was spending all that $$ on something that will get roughed up in the mail anyway :P

  • We got clear ones too since we are using purple envelopes... I am glad I am not alone on this! The envelope just goes in the trash anyways so if people don't like my label whatever!! :)

  • I think i'm just going to handwrite mine. we could afford calligraphy, but i just don't care about it and it's one more thing that will take time. This way, if I make a mistake on one, I can just go back and fix it or write a new one, etc. my handwriting is decent and i've been practicing my cursive, haha.

  • I will probably just handwrite mine. But, I really want them to look neater than my own hand writing. I do have one of those fancy fountain pens, so I guess I could try to practice? Eh, I don't know.

Has anyone priced calligraphy? I might be able to squeeze it out of the budget. I would only have about 70 invitations and it would only be the outer envelope.

  •  We are using the gel pen addapter for Cricut. It is kinda taking forever but oh well it looks pretty cool

  • I am attempting to teach my self caligraphy-I have decent handwrittign and the bigger I write the better, I am hooke don the large modern swoopy caligraphy.  I am also DIYing my invite design so I may use the design fee I budgetted for real caligraphy if I decide I can't hack it.
There is also the option to print in a very light like gray on on the envelope than go over it with a caligraphy pen.  I am going to try this too!

This is the style I love:

  • I ordered envelopes off of Vistaprint because my pocketfolds are standard business envelope size.  I'm planning on printing them with my printer using  a fancy font.  I have OK handwriting but I'd prefer that they look nice and I don't think anyone on our guest list will really care if they're put through an ink-jet printer instead of sent off to a calligrapher.

I've found it goes about 1.25 to 3 per envelope. There are several decent shops on etsy. I have a quote request into tuccicursive as well she's one of my favs but idk how bad it runs, I'll let you know
