Affordable Videographers

Hiiii! :) If any of you could lend me some advice I'd greatly appreciate it! My fiance and I have just recently became interested in Videography and would love to have our special day taped so we can look back years from now at our DVD! We are financing our wedding on our own which is super TOUGH and did not budget in a videographer.

Do any of you know any affordable videographers you would recommend? Or do you have any opinions about wedding videography?

Thank you sooo much!

We didn't hire a videographer. My parents suggested that we ask other married couples with wedding movies how often they watched the replay of their day. We asked friends and family and couldn't find more than one couple that had watched the video/dvd after the initial viewing when they first received it. It sounds nice in theory, but I think people just don't do it.

To me, this made it easy to decide how much to budget for a videographer. I honestly have no regrets about not having a DVD to go back and watch. If it didn't seem important enough to budget for it in the first place, I'm guessing that you probably won't miss it much either.

If it were me, I honestly would spend the money on a better photographer. At least I have photos framed throughout my house that I look at a regular basis.

I agree with cschuma:) My Dad said the same thing. That was actually one of the first things he mentioned was dont waste your money you will never watch it. The only thing I really wanted was kind of a video guestbook so guests could say something to us on video. I havent decided what to do about this but I think I may just set up a video camera if they decide to say anything

I don't think we are having a videographer either. I hate seeing and hearing myself on tape.

We almost didn't get a videographer for the same reasons listed above. We questioned how much we would watch the video and at first it wasn't going to fit in our budget. I was just going to have my BIL who wasn't in the wedding video tape the ceremony so we had that.

All of that being said, we did end up getting a videographer but we also fortunately ended up having extra money in the budget for it. I don't regret it at all our videographer was awesome to work with.

I would recommend maybe that you have someone record the ceremony because for me it was a huge blur, I am anticipating watching it again. If you have someone at the ceremony do it you get to see it right away rather than waiting months to see it from your videographer.

I agree that having pictures was more important to me than a video. So make sure you get a good photographer first. Don't break the bank for a videographer.

Videography was not important to us... and then, I started reading all these things about how much you'll regret not having it and the day goes by so fast, and all of that, so I started considering it. THEN, I remembered how uncomfortable I feel watching myself on video, so I nixed the idea. We had a fantastic photographer, and I don't at all regret splurging in that area, and not having video.

That being said, we did have the ceremony taped. My church has video equipment set up to tape regular church service to send to our elderly shut-in memebers. The pastor volunteered to turn on the equipment and get our ceremony on DVD. I would recommend having someone (even if it's just a relative with a video camera on a tripod somewhere) tape the ceremony to watch later. But, it'll be just as special, even if it's not a professional video, IMO.

That being said, I have never heard of anyone regretting getting a videographer.

FI & I were in a similiar position on whether to have a videographer or not (to save costs). We asked a few of our friends/family and they all had mixed opinions.

The one that stuck out the most was one of my friends (acutally one of my bridesmaids) who said that she & her husband had a family friend record the ceremony & reception and they were so thankful they did. It was a simple, no-frills DVD with just the goal of capturing the day. She told me that if we didn't get a videographer she would come and personally record our day for us because she didn't want us to miss seeing some of those moments again (ex: hearing the vows that her husband wrote to her, seeing their first kiss and first dance as husband and wife, etc.). She also mentioned that one of their friends was actually pretty upset after their wedding because they didn't spend the money to have a videographer (they wanted to cut costs also).

If you feel like you will have any regrets of not having one, I suggest finding someone to at least record your ceremony (I know some people do offer that option for a low cost). Those are moments that only happen once and you can't get back. Don't worry about finding someone who has the best equipment or movie-like quality... with technology these days, the DVD (or whaver) will look outdated one day anyways.

Theres my two cents :) Hope it helps!

We purchased 2 HD Flip Cameras (abour $350 total) and are having friends pass them around. We felt it would give us a better look into the big day and we can take the footage to be edited later on. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Thank you so much to ALL of you for the responses! It's helped us so much! I think having a family friend is a great idea and the flip camera idea is wonderful, too! I would love to see how it works out!!! Thank you so much again :)
