Snarky Brides

What's up people?

I'm doing some online browsing for food options.  I'd like a healthy as it can get casserole that's easy to make ahead.  Something like old school tuna noodle casserole but without the less than healthy cream of mushroom soup and the gobs of cheesy deliciousness.  Might be a lost cause.  I like the crappy for you casseroles  ;)

i was also researching protein powders, like just mix with water and drink ones.  Anyone have any recommendations?  I looked at the atkins shakes but they're a tad pricey.  I find myself getting really hungry during one of my classes and it'd be nice to have something that takes the edge off well.  A handful of almonds just isn't cutting it.

  • I'm off to the gym (uhg) then to teach ballet for the night. I'm excited because a technically the studio is closed, so girls who cme actually want to be there.

As far as drink mixes, my mom loves ViSalus or whatever the name is that people sell like Pampered Chef. I think it's like $20ish for a pretty large bag. I've tried hers a few times and they seem decent. I used to make smoothies with a Jillian Michaels powder, but it was pretty chalky, I don't think it could be used on its own.
  • Just having some lunch at my desk.  I think I'm going to start redesigning our department web page this afternoon since other things are pretty slow.

Sorry I can't help with protein powders... The only ones I'm familiar with are what H uses and all I know about them is they smell nasty.

  • I'm sitting here at work feeling like my eye will fall out. My head is killing me, I need to stop at Walgreens to get something.

No yoga tonight, I cant imagine being on my head like this.

Protein, H uses American Whey from GNC, it is not cheap.

  • I just discovered an extra cookie in my sandwich bag from Paradise Bakery.  It's kind of made my afternoon even though I'm going to give it away.  :)

    Do you get migraines KD?

  • Thanks for the recommendations guys!  I'm gonna look all these up.
  • Allergies suck.  I slept on the couch my first night back from my trip because I was so stuffy that I didn't want to wake H with my snoring.

  • Anna, I've used ViSalus (which is a meal replacement thing-y) and not horrible tasting. But for a true protein powder, I liked Six Star. It comes in a black and red cannister, and you can get it at Wal Mart, as well as some pharmacies.

  • This is a Weight Watchers recipe that we really like.  We have found that it comes out better if you DON'T cook the carrots & broccoli first.  They come out too mushy if you do.

No idea if this will work for you or not.  (Sorry for the wonky fonts, I c&p'd from Word)

    Creamy Ham Casseroles

NOTE: To make ahead, wrap prepared casseroles with heavy duty foil, or spoon mixture into a reusable oven and microwave cookware container (such as Reynolds or Glad).  Cover with container lid; freeze up to 3 months.  Place frozen casseroles on a baking sheet.  Bake, covered, in a preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour.  Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes. 4 ½ cups uncooked medium egg noodles2 cups fresh broccoli florets1 cup fat free milk1 (10 ¾ ounce) can condensed reduced fat, reduced sodium cream of mushroom soup, undiluted2 cups (8-ounces) shredded reduced fat Cheddar cheese divided1 (6-ounce) tub light cream cheese with chives and onion, softened2 cups chopped lean ham1 cup chopped carrotCooking spray1 cup fat free herb flavored croutons, crushed
    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. Cook noodles in 2 quarts boiling water for 2 minutes. Add broccoli; cook an additional 3 minutes.  Drain.
    3. Combine milk, soup, 1 cup Cheddar cheese, and cream cheese in a large bowl; stir well with a whisk.  Add noodle mixture, ham, and carrot, and stir mixture well.  Divide noodle mixture evenly between 2 (8-inch) square baking dishes coated with cooking spray.
    4. Combine remaining 1 cup Cheddar cheese and crouton crumbs; toss well.  Sprinkle evenly over each casserole.  Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

  • ooh!  That's sounds good Kj!  And the calories are in the range I like (so i can have seconds!)

    Thanks!
  • Try Isopure (if you type that into Amazon, the correct ones come up).  I've looked at a number of different protein powders and compared the calories per serving, and this is the lowest I've found (watch out though, a lot of protein powders have different sized servings, so i always make sure to compare the actual grams per serving).  I also really like the "smart for life" protein bars--they pack a ton of protein for the calorie count (18g protein/180 calories) and they actually taste pretty darn good).  I keep one in my bag in case I get hungry between meetings.

I love love love this weight watchers chicken, black bean, and corn casserole (and so does FI): http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=103131

Delayed response - but it also freezes really well too.  It makes a ton of servings so we frozen in per meal portions so all we had to do was reheat.
