Wii Fit, Wii Zumba, etc.. experiences?

I just got a Wii Fit and Wii Zumba in the last couple weeks. I live in a very unusual climate, so going outside is often not very comfortable. The Wii is intended as more of a "get off the couch at night" thing.

When the weather permits on weekends, I get out and do things like snowshoe. So there are harder workouts taking place.

Wii Zumba seems like a pretty good workout at my level.

Has anyone found the Wii and/or Wii Zumba to be a helpful supplement to their weight loss?

  • I have never used the Wii Zumba, but I have taken Zumba classes & found it to be a fantastic way to workout. It is super high energy and really gets you moving. Plus, since it's dance based, you don't feel that you're working out as much. I lost a little over 20 lbs from taking that class. It was a blast.
  • I do Zumba DVDs every now and then. I started using them last year, I was doing it every single day! I didnt really see any results at first, but I kept doing it. I will say I lost some inches, but i got bored with it, and started doing Jillian Michaels. She is hard! I still do Zumba every now and then. Its def a fun workout, and you will sweat so much!!
  • I like Wii Fit Plus for keeping track of my BMI/weight with the Body Tests.  Some of the balance games on Wii Fit Plus are fun too (the soccer heading game and the obstacle course are my favorite).  I'm not entirely convinced of the accuracy of the scale though, especially since I use it on carpet.

I also have the EA Active exercise "game".  While the workout is actually pretty decent, if you don't hold the remote in the exact right position it won't register your movements. You can't move forward unless you skip the exercise, or just keep repeating it until it registers. I find that really annoying.  I also hate having to strap the nanchuck to my leg for the running parts.

So overall I think it's a good tool to use in addition to your regular workouts, but I wouldn't ONLY use it.  It is fun, though.

  • I am just starting to use the Wii Zumba myself.  I am hoping it helps quite a bit since I have stopped going to the gym.  I need the money I'd pay for the gym for the wedding!
