Have you registered yet?

My Knot checklist is telling me I need to register.  Have you started your registry yet? How many stores? How was your experience?

I was thinking of waiting until after the new year/spring, since Christmas is just so busy.  My Fi seems to think it's going to take like an hour, but after reading some people's posts in another thread yesterday, others were saying it took them 2-3 hours.

We were thinking of registering at the Bay (we're in Canada), but we also have a Bed, Bath and Beyond here as well.  I would register at a local store but our guests are coming from all over the place so it makes sense to do a big box store.  I've heard from another friend who was married about five years ago that the Bay was really particular about what items you can actually register for.  I thought they just kind of let you loose in a store!

Re: Have you registered yet?

  • We registered at Target, Belks, and Bed Bath and Beyond.  We are deleting our Belk's registry though since we didn't find any china there. I HATED registering! It took forever! When we went to BB&B, a lady walked around with us and was putting tons of pressure to register for verrrryyyy expensive items (like $75 per wine glass)!!! I was so annoyed so I just starting registering for EVERYTHING she told me to when I kept telling her I didn't want that stuff. After an hour, I was so frustrated and left.  I deleted everything and started over again and made sure they let us go on our own around the store and it was a better experience. It was a little annoying that I had to convince them to just let me go around the store without them.  I think it took like 3 hours at each store, even after researching what we wanted before going.

  • I registered last weekend. It took about 2.53 hours. We had a lady walk around with us but she really was not any pressure. She pointed out anything that was on clearance and told us to kind of steer away from anything that was discontinued which was great because it is why I was going to wait awhile to register. Actually having her help go through the store was really awesome. I basically told them up front I was looking for every day stuff and not special china or glassware. So they knew going in I wasn't going to be talked into anything I didn't want / need. I am waiting until after the holidays and doing a registry at target too. And will probably shuffle some stuff then if I see other things I like better at target.

  • I have started my registry, but I have done everything online thus far.  It is so much less stressful for me and I didn't have to spend multiple hours all at once doing it.  We are registered at BB&B and Sears.  I have noticed that some of the things I registered for at the start, have been discontinued al ready.  So make sure to check your registry!

  • We were planning to go in March or even April.

Is it weird to wait that long? I mean thats still 6 months before the wedding, I can't imagine anyone will be buying anything before then?!

We're waiting until after the New Year as well. It just seems so early, and I am afraid stores will discontinue items before people are actually thinking about buying stuff for us.

That being said, I did as FI if he wanted to just start our online registries, in case anyone was looking for Christmas presents for us, but he said no. So, we'll do it in January or February. We're doing Crate & Barrell and Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

  • We were bored one weekend so we went and did our registry! We registered at BB&B and I did a target online registry I did put similar stuff on the target one but that's because people complained that BB&B was more expensive thn Target.
  • Right now we're working on the holidays and all that fun stuff so we decided to push things back until the end of January or early February.  I don't think you really have to register until your shower invitations go out.  I also don't see the harm in registering early if that's when you have the time.  It's not like you're telling everyone that you're registered and demanding they go buy stuff off it. :-)
  • We registred at Crate and Barrel and Macys.  We did the Macy's instore and it took about 3 hours.  We needed a drink after! ;)  We did the CB online.

I'm not sharing them with anyone except the moms but they are there.

  • We registered online at Macy's but are still going to the store and adding some stuff, and we are having a Pampered Chef shower where I go through the book beforehand and make a list of what I would like and then the shower is kind of like a pampered chef party and people can buy stuff from there if they want. So we will only be registering at Macys for the stuff that cannot be purchased from pampered chef.

  • We have started our registries online.  Macy's and Crate and Barrel. We do need to go in store to finish them.  FI is not looking forward to it.

  • My FI isn't looking forward to it either, especially after I told him everyone said it took 3 hours or so!
  • We registered at The Bay and I highly recommend it! I didn't experience that they were picky with what they allow you to register for at all! They did let us loose in the store. We only registered for kitchen items. We're going to go back in the spring to do bathroom, bedroom, etc. plus if you want to register for dinnerware or china they get discontinued frequently so you don't want to do them too far in advance.

I'd highly recommend breaking it up into two trips like we did. It is very fun- but it takes you a lot longer than you think and is tiring. Only doing kitchen items took us hours. I can't imagine doing everything in one day. As a bonus, the Bay gave us a white file folder which is really beautiful/high quality and is now what I use as our wedding organizer.

  • Kohl's and BBB - started them online because MOH says people have been asking.  I'm not getting serious with it until the new year though.

  • Kinda embarassing but we registered the weekend after we got engaged, ha ha. We did receive a gift recently after we sent out our Save the Dates.

We registered at Macy's, Crate & Barrel, REI (outdoor store), Amazon.com

We went into the store for Crate & Barrel and REI which was pretty fun although the selection was somewhat limited compared to online. C&B gave us a free gift so that was fun. We ended up readjusting A LOT when we got home but their online system is really easy to use.

Macy's was more disorganized and many of their items are not available online which is kind of annoying since we're having a destination wedding and our guests are spread out. If I were to do it again, I may have scratched Macy's and just stuck with the universal registry on Amazon.

    Have fun!
  • Were waiting until Early 2013. I learned with my baby registry that a lot of styles get disontinued around December/January and dont want to run into that again!

  • We went 2 days ago and registered at Kohl's and Bed Bath & Beyond.  The lady at BBB was super snobby and gave us a hard time about "registering way early."  We plan on going back (or at least online) in May or April and checking to see if we need to add things or what not.  We also plan on registering at another place, but we haven't decided yet.  Kohl's went pretty quick, but BBB took forever! We were there for almost 3 hours...exhausting!
