I know how much every bride loves to talk about her wedding. (Yes I am guilty of this too.) So I figured I would post this blog to see what other brides are doing that they think are unique. Also we could get ideas off a each other!

For example. My FH and I are having a morning ceremony, with a really awesome brunch buffet after for our guests. Were also do a book/newspaper theme. He is a journalist, and I am in school to be an English teacher. Plus we both love to read. So I am having cupcakes, but instead of a stand, I'm making a book tower display and setting the cupcakes all over that. For our favors were doing tea bags wrapped up really pretty with old newspaper clippings. I am also incorprated books and newspapers into the centerpieces.

What unique things/themes are you guys doing??

My dress is half black wtih red and black accessories, so not exactly the traditional outfit. Its actually my mother's dress from the 80s, my sister took it, removed the poofy sleeves and high neck making it a sweetheart neckline, backless with straps. She then added black crinoline, a black satin sash and is working in black beading. My hair fascinator, that will be sitting just above the veil, is a red rose with black feathers. The black feathers will lie across the top of the veil with the rose off to the side.

Our wedding is a DW up to Muskoka so we wanted to embrace that idea a bit with the outdoors and the fall. Our theme is red roses, but heavy on red and black as opposed to the traditional red rose idea.

I am having a Man of Honour (love it, he's my best friend from grade 9 onwards and is SO excited to be involved). A lot of our music that we're looking at are more on the rock side (my fav band for example is Guns N Roses so we discovered VSQ and that's likely what the prelude will be).

We will be having a sweet heart table instead of a head table
No Garter toss
My Fi, The Grooms men, & myself will all be wearing Converse Sneakers
No Wedding cake - Doughnuts instead
My FI & I will be doing a crazy trash the dress session including paint, water, & Our adorable little dog
Our first dance and all other "Slow" songs will be classic rock
I will walk down the aisile to ACDC - not sure which song yet
I refuse to wear any type of Veil

These are only some of the ideas we have some up with so far to make our wedding more "us" we are only in the begining stages of planning though so I am sure we will come up with more

im having an alice in wonderland wedding. the colors are red and white. there will be playing cards in my flowers including mens flowers. no flower girl or ring bearer. finger sandwiches for reception. card games table, chess table, and croquet with flimingos outside. every table will have centerpices of roses and cards and pages from the book. no wedding cake we are doing cupcakes instead. tarts that will be labled "eat me" little shot bottles that say "drink me". we will play the movie on a big screen during the reception, on mute because there will still be music

LOVE the Alice theme!!!

Our wedding wasn't super off-the-wall, but...

-my daughter walked me down the aisle
-our dogs were the ring bearers, no flower girl
-the BM & I wore cowboy boots
-got flowers last minute at Albertsons, didn't really want to be bothered or spend a lot
-made the table runners, succulent centerpieces, aisle decorations, lots of other things
-our friend officiated and was really hilarious
-hula hooping, croquet, bocce, bubbles
-modern dance improv session to Bohemian Rhapsody (totally not planned)
-our best man wrote us a Dr. Seuss-style poem for his speech

Omgosh I love the Alice and Wonderland idea. I never would have thought to play it on the background. That will be really cool. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one not doing a traditional wedding cake. It just isn't "us". You're guys's ideas are all awesome! Thanks for sharing

nothing too crazy so far, but we're skipping real flowers and doing DIY fabric flowers in little flower pots, mason jars with lace around the sides for our candleholders, the location is an outdoor garden area outside a tex-mex restaurant, I'll be wearing a dolly couture short wedding dress, the theme I suppose is vintage country garden. We're thinking of doing a guest book at each table and asking guests to write their well wishes, and each year we'll read one of the books (table 1 on our first year anniversary, table 2 on the second, etc) I forget where I saw that idea online but I thought it was a cool one! since its a garden with a grassy areas where the ceremony will be, for the reception we are thinking of setting up croquet for people to play if they want, or some other sort of lawn game. we're thinking of doing our escort cards/favors as little jars with m&ms in them, with the name and table written either on a little tag or a flag stuck into the jar...work in progress there!

We're having a morning wedding with appetizers before and lunch afterwards.
We're greeting all our guests as they arrive during the appetizer hour.
We're not having dancing or alcohol at the reception - instead, we're having Uno, cards, and Yahtzee at each table.
The centerpieces are cola crates filled with antique red books (wedding colors are red, teal & gray), potted succulents, the games, and flowers.
Table "numbers" are DIY cross-stiched photos of places we've been together/are significant in our relationship.
The guest book is a dictionary.
We're inviting the entire guest list to the rehearsal dinner the night before.
We're not doing garter or bouquet toss.
Since we aren't having dancing, we're doing our first dance alone with the photographers and videographers before the wedding.

Ceremony music will be Tool and/or In Flames

Lots of metal played at the reception (we met because of metal), as well as new wave for dancing.

No tosses (we always felt awkward doing it, so we're skipping it)

We're Heathens, so we are having a Heathen ceremony

People will have to roll a giant d20 to get us to kiss (instead of clinking glasses). We haven't decided what the crit fail penalty is for rolling a 1 yet

I'll have a Man of Honor, he has a Best Maid

I really wanted to best maid to carry a chestburster plush instead of a bouquet, but we decided against it (though there will be one in there somewhere)

There will be a vague hint of old horror movies, gaming, zombies, and Cthulu around the reception, but they'll be more subtle... like easter eggs

Oh, and there's our STD:

Yes, this is legitimately what we sent. There was a safe version sent to most of his family (my mother laughed so hard, she cried when she saw this. My father just shook his head and said "that's my kid") His friends at work were all amazed that I let him do this, until he explained that it was actually my idea. They were sufficiently jealous.

I'm just in the beginning stages so I don't have everything put together, but here goes.:

Not sure how unique the theme is, but we are doing a Zen theme. It's not really the religeous aspects, but just the feel of zen that we want. I will hopefully be in a local museum, but I don't have that nailed down yet. For the favors, we are going to do lucky bamboo in small vases with a small label with our names and wedding date on it. That way it will also double as part of the floral arangements on the tables, but people will just take them home with them. Our cake will also incorporate bamboo on it. The are we have the ceremony in will also double as the area we have dancing in later. I thought wr would use bamboo outdoor seating instead of traditional chairs for the ceremony, then just push them back around the wall for seating when we have dancing.

We're having a Poetic Wedding Theme. So far ideas are coming slowly together. For our wedding reception tables we will be naming each table a poem by Maya Angelou which is our favorite Poet. We are also having a Memory Table which we will show some of our funny little texts that we have texted in the past (Yes we've saved some). Oh our colors are brown and lavender. So far what we have.

We've got some fun, non-traditional aspects. At least I think so. We're both musicians and I'm thrilled about some of our music themed items, ALL made ourselves:

- invitations are concert tickets
- confetti hearts made out of sheet music
- tiered cupcake displays made out of old vinyl records
- card box made out of an old acoustic guitar
- no first dances, but first songs that we'll play and sing together

We're having our wedding in my country (Colombia) where we're just doing the ceremony and a sit down dinner, no dancing or anything like that. Back here we're doing a wedding celebration with all the works. I'm hiding in the bridal suite during the cocktail hour, but my FH is going to be there. We're not doing the whole limo thing, my "partymaids" (as I call my bridesmaids) are getting there by themselves, my fiance is getting to the place in his harley motorcycle and I am just showing up there in a town car with my sister.
My favors are masks for a mascarade dancing period, not doing flowers, just candles, no tossing of the bouquet (im not having one). The music is def not going to be like the typical wedding music, since my FH and I don't like hip hop or dance music.
