Having trouble Finding the Right Reception Venue!

I am having the hardest time finding a reception venue that doesn't have hidden fees and that fits us! i am in Indiana so already the choices are limited. Does anyone have sugesstions about where to have a reception and or the ceremony? We have a ceremony site picked out but I feel like now that we can't find a reception hall or a caterer that can change! I am getting very frustrated. I thought planning a wedding was supposed to be fun and it definitely is not very fun right now! On a lighter note I bought my dress last week and am very very happy about that!! And I have found someone to make the cake for a reasonable price which is rare and I also have found a photographer. I'm also looking into doing the flowers myself, I love setting up flowers so I am very excited about that. I just need a reception venue that isn't outragous on price, I would love to be able to bring my own food or find a caterer that isn't so highly priced. We are having only up to 85 people so it's not a big affair. And I am going for a rustic, outdoor, fall theme, want things to look simple but classy. Finding something in the Monticello, Lafayette, Delphi, Brookston area has proven to be very dificult!!!! Yell

Avon Gardens allows you to bring in your own caterer. You might also check with some of the state parks.

Or some local media outlets (TV stations, Newspapers) have "best of" lists that might have some venues you haven't thought of.

I recently saw somebody else post about Wea Creek Orchard (Lafayette).  Apprently they do weddings, so it might be worthwhile to contact them to ask about pricing and catering.

I am getting married at Avon Gardens! They are awesome, but down by Indy. If you want outdoor you might want to check Turkey Run State Park or Shades State park. Both of those would be cheap, allow your own caterer, and aren't too far from Lafayette. Or Happy Hallow Park in Lafayette.

thanks for all the ideas! I looked into the Wea Creek Orchard but still haven't made up my mind yet! We did find a restaurant close to home that has a couple banquet rooms near the lake...so we'll see how expensive they are! Wish me luck!!

We're getting married at Wea Creek and are so happy with our decision.  They have a lot options for outdoor ceremony sites (we're probably going to get married in the orchard).  And then we're using the barn for our reception.  It's 500 for the day of as well as the day before and after.  They don't have table and chairs but they'll get you in touch with vendors; but they will set up and take down the tables and chairs.  We're doing a bonfire just outside of the barn for smores and just a gathering place.  They charge 50 for the fire, but they'll keep wood on the fire and keep their eyes on it.  The only employee they have also works for a local caterer that we're also using.  We were going to do our own food but the prices are just as cheap as making it ourselves and they provide all plates and silverware as well as decorating the table in your colors.  (Oh, and the barn has one, and will have another, restroom soon so you don't have to rent outhouses.) Back to the vendor, they have a lot of different price options, ranging from 7-29 dollars a person.  We're doing a hog roast and bbq chicken and it won't be more than 10 a person.   But all in all, the owner is a great great person to work with.  He has a lot of connections in the area which will makes things easier for you, and he's willing to go out of his way to help us with what we want for our day.

I found Wea Creek and it's so pretty! Now I definitely can't make up my mind! We found a great place to have the ceremony that is very unique and no one has gotten married there before! So we want to stick with that spot. As far as a reception goes I'm getting to the point where I guess I don't even care where it is anymore as long as it isn't an arm and a leg! We are paying for the wedding ourselves so we definitely are looking for ways to keep the costs waaaay down to make it easier on ourselves and on the honeymoon we want to take!

Is your ceremony location close to lafayette? If you're still considering Wea Creek, I could call them and set up an appointment to go see it (if you haven't).  My fiance was sold immediately...the pictures on the site do not give it justice.

Our ceremony is in between delphi and monticello. Someone told us about Ross Camp in West Lafayette, They have a chapel there in case the weather is bad and we need a back up plan and they have a couple cute buildings for a reception and they are fairly cheap. The problem is now nailing down a caterer for the event and finding one that is cheap enough for our budget! Any ideas there? We were going to go with the Sportsman Inn in Monticello but I haven't heard anything back from them after giving them ideas on the menu so I have no idea what's going on. I think they forgot about us!

Just a note on Ross Camp (my fiance's last name, so we were obviously going to go there), the chapel doesn't have a center aisle.  Just to let you know.

we may end up going with ross camp now and a different caterer. the people we were working with in monticello...ugh. the guy i talked to was in charge of creating the menu and making the contract. i sent him what i needed to for a menu. but then he went on vacation and didn't respond in any way. the manager finally called me today and apologized. but she did actually say that they get very busy and things get overlooked. seriously!!!!???? this isn't a day where things can get overlooked so now i'm thinking i need to start all over again and find a new place and a new caterer. ugh...the wedding is in October...feeling very very overwhelmed!

We just went to a wedding a few weeks ago at Aberdeen Manor in Lafayette... and it was Beautiful!!!!  The ceremony was in the garden with the reception inside the building, and it was all simply Gorgeous!!!  Even down the the chairs.... gorgeous!!!!!  I believe the food was from there, and i couldn't put down my fork until my plate was spotless, soooooo good!!!!!  The bartenders were all very friendly!  and the dancefloor was so easy to dance on!  like it was made of rubber or something not hard cement or wood... so my feet did not hurt a bit by the end of the night!!!  Also, all the fancy chandeliers look Great in all of our pictures!  It really was a beautiful night!
