    Did you look around this board at all? Or over on Etiquette? There are literally hundreds of posts on this topic.

    Never ask for money. It's rude. No matter how terrible your MIL is.
    Edit : I realize this is not very constructive. Don't register or have a small registry and don't have any showers. People will get it and most likely give you money
