A family friend doing counseling/ceremony?

My fiances best mans mom is a priest (that may be the wrong title? But you get the point!) and he talked to her last night about marrying us.
I think this lady is a doll, and I've seen her every thanksgiving the last 4 years. She's like family, I trust her. But I don't know how I feel about counseling with her...? I kind of wanted a sand ceremony and some readings and I don't know if those are in her comfort zone. These are things I will talk to her about and my fiance would like us to get together before we decided, which makes perfect sense....

My question is this: What would your thoughts be if it was you and your fiance/husband? Do you think having a family friend do pre-marital counseling and then preforming the ceremony is a blessing or messy territory?

    I think it is a great idea to have a family-friend do the ceremony.  It makes it a little more personal.  I would def. talk to her about what you want before you formally ask her to do it.

    If you are uncomfortable about counseling with her maybe you can use someone else for counseling and use her just for the ceremony.  You could always try one session with her and see how it goes.

    I was not comfortable using a family friend to do the counseling with, so my FI and I did the engaged encounter weekend instead of one-on-one conseling with another couple.  Maybe you could do that instead?

    my uncle, who is a priest, will be marrying us but not doing the counseling. he isn't a priest at the church we're getting married, so we're just using the local priest for counseling.
    i don't think i'd be comfortable with doing counseling with him either.

    The way he worded it led me to believe it was a condition of her doing it...
     he's at work. We will talk more about it once he's home. Thank you for the responses :)
