Picked up my dress!!!!!

I tried on my dress today, and all the alterations were done and it's gorgeous!!!  I will need to have another fitting in July after we've moved up north before the wedding to adjust for any weight loss, but right now it fits perfectly and I love it!  They also did the bustle, which works great.

Here's my picture from today with my veil:

And I brought it home!!!!!!  My Dad might be coming for a visit next week, so if so he'll bring it back with him on the plane (if possible).

So that's my question - anyone know anything about transporting a dress on a plane?  Specifically Southwest and/or American Airlines?

Re: Picked up my dress!!!!!

  • No Idea. I am just sooo excited for you having your dress in hand! And, it looks gorgeoussss!
  • I don't know about transportation just had to say you look amazing!
  • YAY to having your dress.  You look beautiful!  Sorry no idea about the travel part.
  • Hmmm I remember a conversation on my month board about transporting it and I think the resolution was "call the airline, but it usually counts as your carryon so be prepared for that." I'd just be concerned on a full flight trying to find space where it wouldn't get crushed.

  • You look ah-mah-zing. I agree with Irish, I'd call, but it'll probably count as the carry-on.

  • It's beautiful.

  • That's gorgeous!

I've only flown once, so I can't help you out much with transporation, but I hope it works out.

  • I'm not sure either. I would just call the airline. But your dress and veil look so pretty!

  • First.. You look GORGEOUS!! soo pretty! and your hair looks long!

Second.. I've heard of people buying another seat for their dresses but that's kind of expensive. Ditto everyone else though, just call the airline.

I flew on United with an evening dress/ball gown for H's Ring Dance at the AFA. The flight attendants were really helpful. I had it in a garmet bag and they were able to hold it up front in the first class/pilot/attendants closet.

A friend of ours got married in Brazil, I told her what I did and she was able to do the same with her wedding dress.

It wouldn't hurt to call but as long as it isn't in a box, they should be able to store it for you/your dad.
  • YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY for picking up your dress!  It's gor-juss.  :)
  • Gorgeous! And the veil is stunning. :)

Thanks for the tips!  I think I have a nightmare that somehow it would get confiscated by TSA.  I'd feel a lot better if I was there with it (protective much? haha) but if anyone's going to be protective of it, it's my Dad!  I'm sure it will be fine, but it's good to hear that others didn't have a problem.

And thanks ladies for all the nice words!  Now I gotta tone up those arms haha

  • First, Yay for getting the dress home and you look amazing as always! Wink

Second, I ditto Shan. If the plane isn't too full, especially first class, the flight attendants should be fine hanging it up in the closet. I barely use that thing when flying first and there's usually always room. I know others have also put their dress in above cabin especially if flights aren't full, but if they are I have heard some had to buy an extra seat for their dress.. I heard all this from the Vegas board btw, most the brides there flew with their dresses!
  • That's gorgeous. I love the detail on your veil.
As far as the transporting your dress on the plane I would suggest calling the airline ahead of time and make ensure that the flight attendants will have room in their closet to hang your dress in.
  • That dress is soooo pretty! And I love the details on the veil! Congratulations on having them ready to go!!! You look great. Smile
