Garter catcher puts garter on...

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen this done... Only 18+ people are going to be allowed to catch and it is an adults only wedding

The man who catches the garter puts it on the woman who catches the bouquet.

OR

The man who catches the garter is blindfolded and puts in on one of the groomsmen.

Please don't use your guests as a source of entertainment. If you want to throw the bouquet and garter, that's fine, but if you make it into a game then your going to find that A, no-one wants to catch the bouquet (the last wedding I went to, everyone stood up there and the bouquet fell to the floor. Awkward.) and/or B, your creepy aunt Wilma is lifting her dress to allow someones smashed cousin or uncle or coworker to put the garter on. Either way, it's uncomfortable for everyone and humiliating for the 2 unfortunate enough to catch them.

I have seen the garter catcher put it on the bouquet catcher, and I have yet to see this done in an un-awkward manner. If you want to do their tosses that's fine (I am ) but please don't make them do this, its humiliating as PP said. My sister caught the bouquet at a wedding last year but when she found out that they were going to have the guy put the garter on her she promptly tossed it to another girl.

Haha, yeah it can be. It's the norm where I'm from, but I would like to get rid of the awkward parts ( I might even nix the whole thing if FI lets me)

Yeah, I hate that part. And I second the poster who said not to make your guests part of the "entertainment" for the evening. I would find that terribly uncomfortable.

That sounds awful! I've never heard of that! Every wedding I've gone too, they just did the tosses, the guy and girl took a picture together and it was done. The other stuff just seems trashy.

I have not heard of this and it doesn't sound like anything I would want to participate in. I would just throw the garter and the bouquet and not have anyone forced to dress another human being.

I've been to one wedding where the catcher puts it on the girl. I'm not a prude, but I find it disgusting.

I'll say, I was the girl. The guy was another friend of the bride's. We'll just say he's not exactly a gentleman. That was one of the worst experiences of my life, and this was a wedding where the GM escorting me grabbed my butt walking back down the aisle.

Please, for the love of god, let this trashy tradition die already.

I agree with those who hate the garter donning ritual- it always makes me uncomfortable to see it done. That is a terrible story, MyNameIsNot, and I always feel like that's what's happening.

I've never seen or heard of the catcher putting it on a groomsman (don't know how he could possibly be tricked, though- a man's leg, with or without pants, is going to feel either more clothed or hairier than a woman's leg)- I have heard of the bouquet catcher being secretly replaced with the bride's grandmother or some other older lady, but that seems even more awful than the original.

I've only seen it where the catcher puts it on his arm . Never where he puts it on the bouqet catcher.. if they know each other it may not be akward but if they are strangers.. I wouldn't do it

I've been to one wedding where they "tricked" the garter catcher into putting the garter on his brother or cousin (some male relative). Garter catcher was blindfolded and was doing some crazy crawling dance up to the chair and got to the guy's knee before he ripped off the blindfold and was totally shocked. I thought the whole thing was staged, but he seemed really shocked. Still not sure though. Anywho, I had secondhand embarassment while watching him do the crazy crawling dance and even more when he was putting the garter on the guy. It was just so uncomfortable.

I've never seen either of those done... I just don't get it, it sounds much more awkward than funny or entertaining or anything.

We're skipping the bouquet toss and garter thing altogether.

Being someone who, unfortunately, caught the bouquet and the garter catcher had to put the garter on me. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! It is akward and uncomfortable. I agree with PP do not use your guests as entertainment. Do the tosses, take a picture with the catchers, and leave it at that.

ETA: FWIW We're not doing either tosses.

I'm pretty sure if I caught the bouquet and then realized they were going to do this I would start weighing my relationship with the couple to how rude it would be to jut leave.

I've never been to a wedding where they DIDN'T put the garter on the girl who catches the bouquet. When I was younger, in fact, my 12 year old cousin was the one who caught it. He got the garter onto the girl's ankle, and then they danced, so it was actually kind of cute. I have been to spome weddings where they sort of rig the whole thing, making sure a certain boy and girl catch, so then it wasn't as akward for them to do.

I think this would make the people who catch the garter/boquet uncomfortable especially if they don't know eachother. When I caught a boquet at my friend's wedding I had to dance with the person who caught the garter and then we took pictures with the bride and groom which I thought was nice. I would suggest doing something like that.

I've seen this done at every wedding I've been to. At one of them, (at the DJ's request) the girl then turned around and put it back on the guy's leg. DH thought this was hilarious, so we did it at our wedding.

I think it's funny when they do this, and I'd be disappointed if it ended with just the catches.

I don't even like the tosses. How many men have gotten annoying and uncomfortable nudges from other guests just because their date or girlfriend caught the bouquet? Add to that the humiliation or anger he would feel if some other guy was required to feel up his date to honor some lousy tradition. Likewise, a jealous girlfriend who watches her guy touch another girl is not going to think too fondly on the couple that forced the task and the guy will be in the doghouse for ages afterward!

As someone put it on another board, "I am not a fan of flying underwear at weddings." And if the flying underwear then gets put on the bouquet-catcher, that is even worse.

We skipped all tosses at our wedding.

Ditto. HATE them. Might do a quick toss then Bride pic with bouquet catcher and Groom with garter catcher but really no worse than that PLEASE! I am super shy and would be crying afterwards if they made some strange guy I didn't know put a sexy garter on my leg in front of a bunch of people. I WOULD CRY!

That sounds so horrible!!!!

We are doing the toss and just a picture with the catchers afterwards. Now if the initiate something on their own... that's a different story!

Eh... we did all of it anyway...

No it wasn't awful, no we didn't make our guest the entertainment...and yes we had a blast!

It actually worked out great, the two who caught it are now dating hahahahaha which is awesome! totally cute couple
