Suggestions for Girls Weekend at a Lake

Hi!

I am planning my sister's bachelorette party and she would like a girls weekend at a lake somewhere. We are thinking about an October time frame so we probably need somewhere south-ish. The bridesmaids are as far flung as Omaha, Savannah and Baltimore. I'm thinking somewhere in Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama or the likes might be best, but we are open!

    I'm looking for suggestions of lakes to go to. I'm not from the area of the country that is warm enough to hang out at a lake in October.

    I will try the local boards, I just thought I'd try here to see if some people had a vacation spot they really like down there.

    Do you want to actually play in the water?  By October, most of the lakes will be cooling off b/c they're freshwater.  My parents live on Lake Gaston, NC and that's where I'm getting married.  You could get a great deal on a rental house in October because it's after the tourist season and the leaves would just start turning for fall :-)  It's right between I-85 and I-95 on the VA/NC border :-)  Good luck!
