Yet another priest question

So FI and I are 'good' friends with a guy who is being ordained in 2 weeks. I didn't want a random celebrating our Wedding so I thought it would be great to ask him. We also have a few other priests who FI is close with that we have asked to concelebrate.

Now, the future-priest we are asking to come in for the wedding lives what I think is like a 24 hour drive from where are going to be getting married.  So I was wondering, since we are asking him to come and celebrate, do we pay for him to fly in? or how is that done?  I thought about if we weren't going to ask him to celebrate, would we still invite him? I said no, cause of how big the wedding already is. That makes me feel like we should at least offer to help pay for his flight. The pastor of the parish where we are getting married has already offered the rectory for the priests to stay at so housing is taken care of.

Does anyone have thoughts on this??

I think paying for his flight would be a very nice gesture.

i think you should pay his transportation and at least 1 night in the hotel if you are asking him to travel.

I agree. Unless he knows someone or another priest close to wear you are getting married, I think paying for his flight and lodging would be very nice of you.

I think you should pay for his flight, accommodations, and invite him to the rehearsal dinner and reception, of course.  A nice gift to thank him for his time and assistance is in order as well.

I know it's scary to watch all of the expenses pile up, but please don't cheap out on the person who's actually going to marry you ;)

Thanks for your thoughts guys! I definitely was going to invite him to the rehearsal dinner and the reception cause he is a good friend. When I had first mentioned about paying for it FI was not all for it but hearing the same opinion  that I had so I'm not entirely crazy! |
    Thanks

Also if you didn't pay for the flight for him would he be able to make it to your wedding financially. I know many priests have a modest income so I don't know how economical it would be to make that flight on his own.
