Colors

What are everyone's wedding colors? Our reception is in a post and beam barn, and our ceremony will be outside overlooking the venues 600 acres.  We are doing the rustic theme, w/ burlap, mason jars, etc.  I want to do a pale, blush shade for the BM dresses, possibly the color of the photo below, or possibly a pale lavendar.  Something soft but not too pale where the girls will look washed out.  What would you all recommend for tux colors?  We are trying not to do black, but I don't know if grey will look good, or if a tan would look better.  Flowers and other decorations will likely all fall into the soft, pale blush or lavendar categoy, and cream, etc.  TIA!!!

Re: Colors

  • That sounds really neat. i think a blush would be really pretty with the rustic theme.

We are having a baseball theme with the colors purple and green. My team colors mixed make purple and FI's make a lime green, So that's what we are going with, =)

  • I love your idea... my colors are; ivory, blush pink, champagne and black. My theme is vintage... so, sort of in the same vein as the rustic concept.

I think, if your ceremony is outdoors and during the day, that a beige or kahki suit would be nice but it's a casual look... pair that with a flowing sundress type of style (like your posted photo) would be really nice and fitting. If you're having an evening ceremony and want a little more of a formal look then a charcoal grey suit would work better (not so casual) and still be an alternative to black.

However -the color of that dress you posted (in my opinion) is a dusty rose/ mauve NOT blush. A blush tone is a much lighter shade of pink. It's borderline baby pink/ peachy pink. It's a shade that's so soft its barely there. The color of that dress is way too dark to be considered blush. But, it's still a pretty shade of mauve and paired with a beige/ kahki or even charcoal suit would still look lovely and fit with your rustic theme. Just my opinion.

  • I like the dress color that you have picked out for your girls. I do think that it will look very nice. I think tan tuxedos would look nice. We are having a formal wedding out by the water of Lake Ontario with our city's lighthouse in the background. Our colors are spa/malibu (the girls are wearing spa blue dresses and the guys vests/ties are the color malibu) and yellow (we're using yellow roses). There are also going to be yellow roses on our cake, and the fountain water is going to be the light blue. Colors are such a wonderful thing. Smile

  • Our colors are a dark aqua/teal-ish with dark pink/berry colors (originally inspired by this photo!!)  I loooove the contrast! I want to have a fun and colorful wedding :-)
The centerpieces are going to be these pink flowers in white vases on a aqua table runner... bright, colorful, fun!!

this is the actual BM dress we ordered short in "caribbean" ... the color online does is absolutely no justice as it is way brighter and bluer than it looks!
  • FIs half of the wedding party will be wearing kilts and I'll be incorporating my family tartan into my dress so besides the colors of the tartans mostly dark blues and greens we'll be having a purple close to amethyst and daffodil yellow as accent colors :

  •  My colors are Navy and Yellow, with my maids in Navy and they will be carrying sunflowers.

With regard to your question, I personally think blush and pale colors look good with both tan/beige AND gray, so you really cant go wrong.  I have my guys in gray because my barn is tan, and I feel that they kind of would blend in too much.  Especially inside the barn it is truly very tan, I like a little contrast so I thought gray was better suited (and like you, didn't want them in black due to the heat).

  • We're doing purple and orange. It sounds strange, but it's a really pretty contrast. We went to DC with a bunch of our friends last April and outside the WHO building was an etire garden of orange and purple tulips (coincidentally also FI's favorite flower) and I thought it was beautiful and decided that someday those would be my wedding colors. I had no idea FI was planning to propose then, but he was already planning on it and had told one of his friends wile on that trip too!

  • Thanks for sharing your colors everyone, you all have such creative colors! And thank you for the advice regarding mine! Ashlidie, you make a good point about the color of the barn.  It's all post and beam wood so a tan color might get lost.  Brita, you're right it's not a blush, the blush color on Alfred Angelo's site is  very light and the one I posted is called sugar plum, I just wasn't sure how to describe it. Muave is a good word choice.  A charcoal gray for the suits is something I will look into!
