HRM

Do any of you ladies use a heart rate monitor? I am going to start doing the bridal boot camp and it says to buy one. Even without doing this program, I would still like to have one lol. I have looked at the Polar FT40 which is about $110 on Amazon cause it has really good reviews but I just wanted to see if anyone else had tried any different ones!

Re: HRM

  • I have the polar FT7 and love it!

I really don't need any more than that at the moment.  It has allowed me to get a more accurate readout on how many calories i am burning instead of just guessing.  Some of the activities estimates were WAY off of where they should have been. I blogged about it a bit in the beginning of August so if you're interested in more than that, the link is in my signature.
  • I have a really basic Polar F4.  I think it was about $65.  You can spend tons of money on really fancy ones, but really, I only need it to tell me what my HR is and how many calories I've burned.  The basic ones tell you those things, how long you were in the your target zone, how long you worked out, and max HR, and that's enough for most people.  I don't think I'd ever use any of the features on a fancier one (unless we're talking all out GPS like a Garmin, because I absolutely want one of those, but that would be for running.)

  • Best thing ever. I love my polar- however, it is important to have metabolic testing done as well (about $100) to figure out your heart rate zones, your VO2 max, AT, etc. To figure out your best work out in the shortest amount of time, it is best acuratley know all of that information.
  • Thanks ladies! I think I'm gonna go with the FT4! Right now, Amazon looks like the cheapest place to buy it at $79
  • I have used a Polar F6 for almost two years now. I love it! The chest strap is comfortable and the company has great customer service. It stopped working last spring, so I sent it in and they sent it back completely fixed free of charge b/c it was under warranty. Absolutely no hassle.

I would love a Garmin but until I save up for one, I highly recommend Polar.

  • Mine is a Timex Ironman.  I spent about $70 on it a couple years ago.

It does everything I need, so I don't have any desire for a more expensive one.
