  Since the wedding is still more than 18 months away I would avoid doing anything that has to do with decor. I changed my mind on the colour scheme, centerpieces, etc probably 5 or 6 times before I finally settled and ended up returning some stuff I bought and had to take a loss on a few things that were final sales. Lesson learned, wait.
  
  Things you can do are: make up a tenateive guest list, figure out your budget, start researching vendors, look for a venue that fits your guest list.

  The internet is really helpful in envisioning how i want my wedding to be. I looked up things like church decor, reception decor, cakes in certain colors etc.  I just got engaged 2 months ago and i have my color scheme, head table, reception table, bridesmaids dresses and wedding dress picked out.  I also eat, breathe, and sleep this wedding...lol!

  I am also planning a 2014 wedding. I am so overwhelmed and I feel that I want to get a head start. But I would suggest to at least wait till after the end of 2012 to plan certain things. I read that certain decisions like wedding party, dress, etc should not be made til 6-9 mos before the wedding because sizes and people change.
