Thursday

Thank god I've only got a half day booked tomorrow, this week is making me nuts! I have a paper due on Monday, so I'll be working on that a lot.

Angel you must have been writing this post as I was attempting to start a Thursday one. I'm going to edit mine, just to keep everyone on the same thread to get the most responses.

C&Ping what I wrote on the one I tried to start:

Tonight I'm hanging out with my friend to have a girls night at home. I think we're gonna pick up Shoprite sushi and drink some wine. I haven't had sushi in a long time, so this will be a nice treat.

We were supposed to get some snow last night, but I guess the storm has been moving at a slower pace than expected and has been down graded. By tomorrow the prediction is fortunately only a few inches, but they're worried high winds and power outages.

I got a few views on my blog from other countries last night. It was exciting to see that this morning. It's the little things that sometimes excite me.

    How is everyone else doing?

Thanks to everyone for your input on dresses yesterday. We ended up going with the dark grey, and I am just happy to have that checked off the list!

Tonight I'm taking a coworker out for a drink for her birthday and as a goodbye -- her last day is next Friday. The second job I was applying for is actually the job she is leaving, so maybe I will get some inside intel on how that search is moving along.

I'm also doing some research on buying a Kindle for the honeymoon. Does anyone own one? I'm looking at the Kindle Fire -- deciding between a 1st gen refurb, 2nd gen, or HD.

ETA: angel, I have a paper due on Monday, too, and I have NO motivation to even start it!

  • Buzz, sushi and wine with the girls sounds awesome! Maybe if dress shopping on Saturday goes quick, we'll do that! Congrats on getting the dresses Pickle, I could tell it was stressing you out, since you posted it everywhere! ;-)

<div>I have the Kindle Fire HD! I got it for my birthday in January. I had some issues with it the first couple times I used it. It kept restarting, for no reason. It was pretty frustrating. I gave it couple days and it worked itself out on its own so fortunately I didn't have to send it back to get a replacement. </div><div>
</div><div>Other than that, I love my Kindle. Right now I mainly use it like a tablet - not a reader because I'm trying to finish a hardback book that I'm almost done with. I've bought one book for the near future for when I'll allow myself to start it. I've realized that it's helpful to have a booked loaded on it, even if you're not currently reading it, because if you find yourself in a place where you are unable to connect to the wifi (mine only uses wifi - no data plan), you won't be able to download a book when you want it. </div>

  • I love my kobo, I'm on my second and used gift cards to buy a spare, cause I'm worried I'll kill this one too. I use it constantly though, so it's not a bad product, I just use it 3x more than the average consumer.

  • One minor issue I can think of with my Kindle is that when I read my gmail from their email app that comes with the Kindle, my emails don't maintain their grouping that gmail is so convenient for. I've started reading my email by logging into gmail from the web browser instead because it keeps the messages grouped together like normal. I should see if google has their own app for gmail which might make it slightly easier.

In terms of app games, I've been having fun with Flow Free and Fruit Ninja. Words with Friends was fun for awhile but then I got bored with it. It probably doesnt help that most of my friends where killing me point-wise and made it a little less fun when I lost by such a large margin.

  • I LOVE my Kindle! I have the older one...2nd gen I think, not the Fire. Do you have an iPad? If not the Fire at least has the tablet, online capabilities mine does not. I agree with Buzz though, definitely have books preloaded in advance just in case you don't have wifii on the spot and aren't able to download wirelessly. Glad you finalized your dresses!! Accomplishing things is always a huge load off!

Buzz--What countries did your blog get views from?? That is exciting!

Good luck on all those papers you guys are working on! I've been more motivated to do cooking after work and try out new recipies. When I was only working 8hr days, I always made huge homecooked meals...now that I've been working 10hr days I've been buying more freezer food..ugh. Just have to stay motivated!

  • I love my Nook, but I also love my moms Kindle. so I have no advice. Etiher way, they are all great to have! I use mine on a daily basis.

    Buzz...becoming international eh? Thats awesome!

My morning has been pretty productive, the most productive day off since I got fired on Monday. I woke up, cleaned the entire house (blasting the music helped), showered, started laundry & went to the gas station to put some gas in my car. I set up an interview on Monday at a staffing agency that does mostly temp to hire positions. I also set up a tour of a really good cosmeotology school in the area. I am not too sure about that, but I think that I should go check it out and see what its all about. Keeping my options open!

For the rest of the day, I plan on watching Gossip Girl on Netflix while FI is at work, and then figuring out something for dinner eventually, all while I work on laundry.

Hope everyone has a great day :]

  • I've gotten views from Canada, which I'm guessing possibly come from Knotties on these forums. But I saw this morning that I had a few visitors from Spain and Israel last night. Someone also "liked" one of my posts who has a blog that seems to be based out of Korea, but for some reason that is not showing up in my stats.

Sierra it's good to hear that you are being nice and productive during this time. Your days sound much more active than 90% of my days in general. I've also found that playing music helps so much with cleaning or doing most things around the house. For Christmas H got me radio/CDplayer/clock that attaches underneath one of our kitchen cabinets. I try to remember to turn it on while preparing meals and especially when cleaning the kitchen and dishes.

Rel - since you're working such long days could you spend a couple hours on Sunday making meals that you can eat during the week? I like to do that sometimes so that I have more free time at night after I come home work. I work 8 hour days, but have an at least an hour commute each way. On some nights I'm just so exhausted and knowing that I have something tasty and healthy already prepared for dinner brightens my mood considerably.

  • Thanks for the input, ladies. Our household does have an iPad, I'm mostly looking for something to read on so I don't have to pack an extra suitcase of books for the honeymoon. Thought I would do a Fire so I could also read magazines in full color, but checked them out at Best Buy over my lunch break and I'm back to square one --  might just go with the standard model due to the glare off of the Fire screen. WOW, I wish I could just make a decision without second guessing myself!

<div>The glare can get a little annoying when in the sun. I sometimes use it in the morning sitting on our couch by the window that gets morning sun and it's a little hard to read. I think it would be even more so if you're out in the actual sunshine on your honeymoon reading at the beach. </div><div>
    </div><div>Do they have a color version that's just a reader that has a non-glare screen? </div>

  • If all you really want it for is to read, i would def go with the basic kindle. My mom has one of those too and I love using it when we go to the beach because there is no glare. Also, I find that having all those extra apps that come with the Fire & the Nook can sometimes be a distraction when trying to read a book.

  • I find glare really hard on my eyes. Not sure if the KOBO in Canada is the same as the Nook in the US? I think it may be. With mine, I can read it in full sun for hours with no eye strain.

Pickle, take a look on Ebay for water proof cases! I love mine! I have a floating chair at the cottage and float around reading for hours! It was awesome for the in-pool lounge chairs in Mexico!

Buzz, one of those Canadian hits was me! :-D

  • @buzz -- as far as I can tell, it's either color with a glass screen, or not color with the real-ink look.

@sierra -- yes, I think the distractions are a downfall -- all I want is to read! Ideally I'll be totally unplugged from social media when we're on the HM.

@angel -- yes! waterproof case, here I come! I can imagine the pool floating now...
