Anyone else into DIY/Natural beauty stuffs?

So, within the last few months I have become, as my younger sister puts it, "a natural hippie nut."  What this actually means is that I do things like putting honey on my face, started OCMing, tried out the no-poo method (It didn't work for me though.  Sad day.), made my own body wash, etc...

Do any of you have diy beauty stuff you like to use and want to share?

  • Are you diluting the TTO at all?  It can be irritating at full strength, and can make your skin worse if you don't dilute it.  Are you just using it to spot treat or all over like a toner?

  • I'm on the Nebb side of this. I don't wash my hair every day though, so there's that.

Pfft.  I wash my hair every 4 days.  If I did it more than that, it gets super dry, flakey and falls out.

Thats the bitch about having thick wavy hair.

  • I wish I could wash my hair less than every day.  I was going every other for awhile, but since I had to switch shampoo and conditioner my new stuff doesn't work so well.

Stupid fine, oily hair.  But it still manages to be dry.  Just like my skin tha tmanages to be dry AND oily.

  • Blue- yup, I've worked my hair up to 4-5 days :) Before I always felt greasy on the second day. I always just use baby powder asa dry shampoo and I used to need thato n the second day but anymore I don't use it until the 4th day.
  • I switched to OCM for my skin with good result. Unfortunately for me "good" is still just not bad. I am 32 and still break out like a teenager.

Ages ago I worked at Whole Foods and made myself this killer body scrub that was regular salt, sweet almond oil, and whatever essential oil I wanted. It made my skin soft as a babies butt for a few days. I highly recommend it. The best results were when I used the scrub and then drew a bath so I could soak in the oily, salty goodness.

After years of bleaching it, my hair was a disaster.  About 8 years ago my new hairdresser told me to stop washing it to let the oils build up.  I had to go a week at first and it was awful.  I would wear bandanas.  Then I went to 5 days, and now I go between 4 and 5 and my hair is wicked healthy.

But if I had thin hair, I wouldnt be able to do it.  I dont need baby powder or dry shampoo as much.

The only time i wash it everyday or every other is during my period when it gets pretty oily quickly.  Its because my hormone levels go fucking bonkers.

<div>I was using it undiluted and all over like a toner, but focusing a little more on the spots.  It didn't irritate or cause any issues, it just, idk, stopped working.  It helped one or two blemishes to go down but then when a new one popped up it did diddly squat.  I've been using the coconut oil for 3 days now (use it morning and night) and the stubborn cysts I've had are FINALLY going down.  Yay!</div><div>
</div><div>Here is a link to the site I first found info on coconut oil.  (I looked at others after to make sure it was legit.)  The most important thing, according to everyone I've read, is to use UNrefined, virgin oil.</div><div>

</div><div>(It's not terribly well-written, which bugs me a bit, but there is a lot of good info there!)</div><div>

  • J, this is late... but I bought my coconut oil at Rainbow. It was like $8? for a fairly big container.  It's a solid at room temp, which is a little weird. I just swipe a glob out with my finger and rub it between my hands for a few seconds and it melts.  I actually use it in my hair now too (instead of the pricey John Frieda stuff I was using) and it works 1000 times better.

Coconut oil subs for alot of things! I chop cucumber and soak it in apple cider vinaigrette and coco oil let it sit and take the mixture and use it on my face

  • J, just go to the vitamin/supplement part of your grocery store and they should carry it.  :)  I got mine at King Sooper's for $6 for a large tub.

  • I use vinegar to mop my tile floors. Its the only thing that cleans up dog piss and doesn't leave any streaks. Never thought about using it in my hair.

  • I make my own shampoo using castille soap, coconut milk, and olive oil. I also use apple cider vinegar as a conditioning rinse after I shampoo and my hair has never been healthier/softer. I tried the 'no-poo' method too but the baking soda actually created a buildup on my scalp.

I've been using coconut oil as a face/body and hair moisturizer for a while too. It's the best thing I've tried and keeps your skin soft all day. My face is usually really oily but the coconut oil as a moisturizer helps keep my skin from over producing oil after I wash and tone it (I use a rosewater/witch hazel toner).

Also, eating 3 tsp of coconut oil a day is supposed to aid weightloss.

<div>Ooh!  What proportions are the ingredients in for your shampoo?  That sounds fantastic and I'd love to give it a try!</div>
