Ceremony Music! Help!

My fiance and I are getting married at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Norwich CT. We are trying to decide what to do for our ceremony music. Our choice has come between either a string trio or a combination of a trumpet, grand pipe organ, & timpani.
On one hand I love the strings because they are romantic and go along with the vintage theme of the wedding, on the other hand the sound of the trumpet with the pipe organ sounds so regal and majestic inside the huge cathedral (the sounds resonates beautifully).. my fiance says what that we should go with whatever I like best.... but i can't decide!! What would you choose??

Re: Ceremony Music! Help!

  • I personally like the sound of strings at a wedding.
  • IMO, if you are having a outdoor ceremony or in a smaller church, the string trio will be a better fit. For a large cathedral I think having pipe organ and trumpet is more appropriate. I'm also a little bias toward the pipe organ and trumpet since that's what I had plus the church I got married at required you to have an organist. I know people that had all three for their ceremony so maybe that's something you can consider if you can't decide between your two choices.
  • Like I stated about I prefer the string, but I am actually doing an organist, because at the church I am getting married at you still have to pay the organist even if you don't use him and bring in someone else.  I don't need the added expense.

Absolutely.  I've been to the Norwich Cathedral and the pipe organ is magnificent.  I think the string quartet would just get lost.
