Show me your...

Cake cutters!

Mom reminded me this morning that I haven't even thought about these yet. If possible, say where you got it!

  • I got some at Pat Catan's for like $6 I think.  It wasn't something I was going to spend a ton on since no one will really see or pay attention to them.  I got them early on in planning.  If I hadn't already got them, I think I would have just used whatever the venue has.
  • I am avoiding thinking about this... I dont want to spend money on them!!! At this point, I am hoping my mom or grandma has their cake cutting set from their wedding that we can just use.... otherwise I hope our caterer has a nice set we can use for pictures.

  • Since we are having cupcakes, we don't need a true cake cutting set. However, we will be using FI's sabre from college that he wore when they marched in parades when we cut the small 2 layer cake. Below is what it will look like:

  • Not getting any. We are having pie anyway. Probably will still cut but I know my venue has a set and I refuse to spend money on that.

  • Yeah, I don't really want to spend money on it either. Maybe I can borrow someone's. I'd be okay buying a cheaper set too though.

    That sabre is awesome!
  • We're not getting any, were just going to be using what our venue provides us with

  • I got ours off of Things Remembered on clearance.  I think I paid $20 for the set, engraving on both, and shipping?  It's not on the site anymore so I don't have a pic right now. But I only got it because it was cheap.  Otherwise I would have just used something the caterer had.

  • I had no intention of buying these. My SIL really wanted to get this and champagne flutes, both engraved for us. I thought the cake cutters were dumb, knowing full well we will never use them again. The flutes I was cool with, knowing full well that we will use those again! Haha However, my FSIL who is making our cake had several sets of cake cutting sets that she found on clearance for 75 cents somewhere that she was holding onto in case she ever needed some for one of her cakes. So, I grabbed one of those she also had flutes she got at the same prices! and gave it all to my SIL and told her she could have a ball and get them engraved and etched if she wanted to, or not. I just asked her to make sure they were there on June 2nd and I'd be happy as a clam! Moral of the story: there are cheap sets all over the place! I have seen several in the last couple of weeks at michaels on clearance I guess they were part of last year's batch!

So, I typed my previous comment in three paragraphs. Apparently my phone decided to revolt. It looks all jumbled now, sorry!

  • We were just going to borrow someone's, but then I found out the cake knife we used for our birthdays growing up was actually my parents' cutting set. I thought it'd be nice to be able to use our set in the same way- holidays, birthdays, etc

This is a Waterford Lismore complimenting set from BBB that "matches" our flutes and the crystal my family uses.

  • This is the set we're getting from Things Remembered clicky
  • We are just using the venue's, unless I happen to be gifted a set.

  • We got these from Hobby Lobby along with matching toasting flutes and our unity candle set.

    Exactly this.
Same goes for the toasting flutes. If someone doesn't purchase them for us, we'll use what the vendor has.

  • So I am obsessed with Nambe so I paid more than I should have for a freakin cake cutter... but honestly I will totally use these again and I did get them at the outlet on sale :)

Had I not been a freak and bought nice expensive ones I probably would have hit Hobby Lobby for some cheap ones or Michael's :)
  • We're just using what the venue has unless I'm given a set at one of my showers.  I haven't found a set that I like enough to register for yet, so its pretty doubtful.

My grandma said she'd love for us to use her toasting flutes from when she got married, if we wanted to, and I agreed before seeing them, thinking how bad could they be?  Well, they're pretty interesting.  They're not the traditional flutes, they're the older kind, the short wide ones that look more like mini-margarita glasses to me.  They also have these strange hearts with an arrow through them going around the glass, so weird, but I think we'll still use them.  We're living in her house until it sells and find loads of "gems" as we call them, so I think its sort of appropriate.  Plus it means more to her for us to use them than it does for me to have special ones.

  • I don't have a pick but my uncle is a professional chef and has a set that we're just going to use.  It's in his wedding stuff collection that he has.

I ordered one of these from Etsy! Ours looks different than the one pictured because they are one of a kind but it is stamped with "You make my life sweeter" We decided not to put the wedding date on it in case we pass it down to a future child on for their own wedding. We also plan on using it for special occasions; birthday cakes, anniveraries, holidays:)

I love those 20% off coupons. You're right about the price. I added it to our registry but I may be getting them off myself. I'll probably wait until after the showers though, just in case someone buys it! Thanks for posting that because I can't believe I didn't think of that before!
  • Love this set!!

We will most likely forgo this unless its gifted. We're having cupcakes and a small cake for us to cut anyway.
