Outdoor wedding color help!

Hello, I am having a rough time deciding on main colors for my wedding coming up in summer 2013. My boyfriend/fiance (we aren't engaged yet, but will be this spring/summer) will be going to Home Depot to look at different shades but I am still wondering if green is a good main color along with another color even though the wedding will be an outdoor wedding in a lush garden at an estate with natural greenery all around. My favorite color is green but I worry about having it be an intrical color for the wedding since there will be plenty of green in the scenery. Also, should we stay with gender neutral colors or is it ok to implement a shade of pink or purple? Thanks!

Re: Outdoor wedding color help!

  • You can choose whatever colors you want, they do not need to be specific for an outdoor wedding.

We got married outside and our colors were Black & Yellow.

  • My wedding colours have both blue and pink in them. Pick what both you and your fiance want and it will be beautiful.

  • We're doing Navy and Olive green and Grey for our outdoor wedding in September. :)
  • Ours are green, white, and tan (natural). Our wedding is mostly outside, with a lot of flower bushes & trees, and I didn't want to compete with the different colors of them so I chose green (it's also my favorite color :P)

I should add - Everything will not be over-the-top green though. It's mostly just in small details (like the wedding invite, ribbons, table overlays, etc.) Our centerpieces will be milk glass with light pink flowers though, so guess I'm not sticking to my colors very well, huh?

I do love the colors PP is using - Navy, Olive & Gray sound awesome together!

I felt the same way with our outdoor wedding, we had about the same setting as you. Originally I wanted sage green, burnt orange and ivory but we went with dark teal and burnt orange and couldn't have been happier with the results. The orange really popped against the greenery and the teal was a nice contrast.
  • Our wedding will be outdoors this September, and we are doing cherry red, teal and chocolate brown.  The men are wearing tan colored suits (not tuxedos) and I will have the girls in chocolate colored dresses.  The tables will have chocolate colored overlays (the venue provides basic white table cloths) and bouquets of red flowers in vases with teal colored stones in the bottom of the vases.  We will also have two bottles of white wine on each table.  Our venue provides standard wedding greenery and tulle, so I will just be dressing up what they have, with pops or red and teal where needed.  Just to give you an idea :)

In answer to your questions though, you can definitely use green as a main color even though it's outside.  I personally would say, just make sure that you add some other "pops" of another color (whether it be white, ivory or another bold color) to help break it up a bit.
  • We got married outside in October.  We did Burnt Orange, Cranberry Red, Yellow, and brown. Absolutely loved it!! Went well with the green grass and the foliage on the trees!!
  • I am having an outdoor wedding in Sept. 2013 and the colors our navy blue, green, and yellow. The blue is the main color with green and yellow accents.

  • I was having trouble with colors also.  Especially when we decided that instead of having the wedding in the summer we may move it to fall.  Someone suggested design seeds for color combos and it is so helpful... Well unless you find 100 different combos you like.  Try that website it is pretty awesome
