Transportation Question

I'm planning on having my ceremony & reception in Corinth, and was planning to block some rooms at the Hilton Homewood Suites in Denton. For the guests, whose budgets I know are going to be tight or won't be able to afford a rental car, should I arrange for a super shuttle or some type of car to pick them up at DFW? Over 90% of our guests are going to be driving or flying in.

The hotel does not offer a shuttle to/from DFW because it's 25-30 miles away and Denton doesn't have an international or commercial airport (FAIL).

Any ideas or suggestions?

Please don't throw Denton under the bus--it's a much smaller town than Dallas and FW. Besides, it's only about thirty minutes (sometimes less) between DFW and Denton.

Have you asked the Hilton if they had some suggestions?

We scheduled a private car to take us to and from the airport for our HM and we used Super Shuttle. We paid about $120 bucks for the round trip but it wasn't much more expensive than parking the car at the airport. We checked their website and made our "reservation" through there.

Heh, I figured if Texarkana could have an airport, I figured Denton would at least have one (even if it's small) like Texarkana. I've sent the email to Hilton; just waiting on a response. I just wasn't sure if say (hypothetical) if you have 20-30 people that were coming in on one day between 1300-1800, then if anyone paid for their own shuttle system for their guests or if they just left it up to them to get from the airport to the hotel.

There's less than 120,000 in Denton. They do have an airport but no commerical service. http://www.cityofdenton.com/index.aspx?page=451 Besides, it's not like it's NYC here and we need three airports. Wink

I don't know of any of the girls who have done a shuttle for the OOTs to and from the airport.

Texarkana, as far as I know, only gets a very limited service and only by American Eagle.

I don't think arranging transport is necessary. Like juliebug said, Denton is literally 30 minutes from the airport. In many places, you have to drive 2+ hours from the airport to get to your destination. Denton is such a small city that it would be strange for it to have an airport that accepts commercial flights...

FI's mom suggested doing a shuttle for our guests as well, but we decided against it. We thought it would be too much trouble to figure out when each person is getting in and coordinate all that.

Also, that would make it hard for them to go anywhere while they're in town. Our hotel has a shuttle within a 5-mile radius of the hotel, so they can get to the rehearsal dinner and wedding, but what if they want to see downtown Dallas or just pick some things up at the store? It's going to be 30-40 people sharing a shuttle with the rest of the hotel guests for the whole weekend. So we know some guests will use the shuttle (FI's mom is telling people she thinks might be inclined to use it), but we didn't want to encourage everyone to depend on it.

I don't know about you, but I pretty much assume that when I travel, I'm going to have to rent a car unless I'm going somewhere with good public transportation. Maybe if you have a wedding website you can list some shuttle services, but also recommend renting a car if your hotel doesn't have any kind of shuttle. I think Enterprise has good weekend rates.

I think MarieSD got a shuttle because a large number of her guests were OOT, and I recall her saying it was money well spent.

We're going to try to have a shuttle from one of our hotels back and forth. Their personal shuttle doesn't go as far as our church or our reception, but they gave us the name of a shuttle company they've worked with for other events, so I think talking to your hotel is the best idea. You're probably not the first bride who has needed transportation outside of their shuttle boundaries.

For our OOT guests, I toyed with the idea of airport transportation, but in the end everyone was able to get to and from the hotel on their own by coordinating with eachother or winging it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to include Super Shuttle information on the accomodation card of the invitation or on your wedding website. When traveling from city to city for occasions like a wedding, I never expect to be picked up, I make arrangements ahead of time and I presume that your guests will do the same. I also don't expect for there to be an airport within spitting distance of the venue, since that is pretty unrealistic. My cousin just got married in Vermont, and the closest airport was 2 hours from the wedding venue. The closest 'decent' hotel that didn't cost over $120 a night was an hour away. People will deal with the distance, they're lucky it is just 30 minutes.

The airport Hyatt has a beautiful ballroom which is well suited for weddings and such, but its no Corinth. (FAIL)

A shuttle to and from your wedding from the hotel would be very nice since most will not have a car... from the airport to hotel is not needed imo.

I booked a total of like 20 hours on Friday and Saturday for RD/wedding transportation for my OOT guests. (I'd originally planned to use the hotel's free shuttle for this, but they went back on things a week before the wedding. Def. get it in writing -- that's my tip for everyone else!)

For the trips to/from the airport, I did arrange for a shuttle company to do one pickup/dropoff since about 8 of my OOT guests were arriving on the same flight on Friday (at 3) and several of them needed to be at the rehearsal (at 5).

All the other OOT guests were arriving at completely different times/days, so I just I put all their options on our wedding website in a special section. I listed the 2 cab companies that were recommended, the approximate cost to take each of those from the airport to the hotel, links to their website/phone numbers, Super Shuttle and another shuttle company (Go something?) and the approximate rate of each of those to the hotel, website/phone numbers. I just couldn't coordinate to do any more than giving them the info. I knew money was tight for most of my OOT guests, but instead of arranging for shuttles to/from the airport, I paid some/all of their hotel bill without them knowing.

My parents also picked up a few relatives from the airport (even though they came in from OOT themselves, just got rental cars). Though I wouldn't have felt right asking them to do that (they volunteered/did that all on there own), that is another idea, if you have anyone who wouldn't mind making an airport run or two.
