South Beach might be a little expensive in October. The affordable hotels are kind of sketchy; the nice hotels probably will be very expensive. Unless staying at the beach is necessary, I would recommend going to downtown. Downtown is a 15 minute drive from South Beach. For the price of a sketchy hotel in SoBe, you can book a nice one in downtown. Downtown also have a nice nightlife, maybe not SoBe, but nice. Mary Brickell Village (http://www.marybrickellvillage.com/) is where the cool bars and restaurants will be in downtown. The clubs in SoBe are full of tourists; the ones in Mary Brickell Village are half and half. Bayside MarketPlace (http://www.baysidemarketplace.com/) is a more touristic area in downtown. It also has some bars, restaurants, live music and souvenirs. In the downtown area, I like the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Brickell Downtown (http://www.hamptoninnmiamibrickell.com/). This hotel is about one year old and very, very nice. It is also #1 on tripadvisor.com for the area and a good price.

We had guests stay at the Surfcomber Miami Beach for our wedding the end of Oct and it was great. Perfect location and they just renovated it. The prices were really good. The W is also awesome but super expensive.

I recommend Miami Beach Resort as well. They usually have good special promotions, at least they did for my wedding!
