A little different style for our wedding pictures

As much as our wedding pictures will be about us, and the excitement of capturing our day - it is (in my mind) the first time we will have more family type photos. FI has three children - 2 from his first marriage and one after his divorce and before he met me (a 19 yr old in Basic Training right now, our Honeymoon will be driving to Ft Jackson to see him graduate from there), a 12 year old daughter (we have her every other week-end), and a 5 year old daughter he has no contact with :( I have two boys from my first marriage a 19 year old son (moved in with their dad at 17) and a 12 year old son (goes to their dad every other weekend). In my mind, I anticipated very special photos of FI and myself and our 12 year olds, and a few with my older son as well. My future SD is a pretty girl, with beautiful brown hair - naturally wavy, auburn highlights, I love her hair.

Well....yesterday her mother took her to bleach her hair and add pink tips. Tongue out NOT really what I pictured, and I am just rolling with the punches! However, just to clarify, that is rolling with letting her be 12 and have a different style - NOT rolling and adding pink tips to mine! (Maybe after my wedding, but probably not!)

Yep my FI's 3yr old who is one of our flower girls has sandy blonde sherly temple curly hair. she showed up the other day with her "new do" the little girl had had her hair in a part up part down ponytail & as usual wasn't being watched & cut her top pony tail off!!!!!!!!!!!! So I totally feel you here. Although yours was deliberate... actually I wouldn't be surprised if ours was handed the scissors

  • We're blending families also. I have a 20 y.o. daughter in college and he has an 8 y.o. son. My daughter likes to dye her hair all funky colors...she goes to an art university and it seems like that's what all the kids do. I already told her she better be back to blonde for the wedding...she's a natural blonde like I am but now has to dye it back to her "natural" color. lol.

Anyway, SS won't be an issue, at least I don't think...but I have this gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that his mother will do something intentional, just to irk me. He lives with us and she sees him, uhhh, whenever, to put it nicely.

  • ohhh wow. i had pink hair in high school but i'd never do that again!! do you think her mother will dye it back nefore your wedding?
  • we are blended as well....I come with two daughters and FI comes with a son. Together we have a 15, 13, 9year old kids....Im looking at these pictures being our next family pictures! I'm excited about it....its hard to go into a studio with five people and have everyone in a good mood and want to be there and smile...this way, everyone will be in a good mood by default!!!!! love blended families....there are so many of them today, its not out of the norm..I like that Laughing

Nope, and I am rather curious if this is a small retaliation for not inviting the mother to our wedding (two weeks ago, she asked FI twice if she could attend). However, it is probably more just lack of foresight and life happens, and moves on!

I know blending families is a challenge, and we will certainly have ours. I think FI and I parent fairly similarly for the most part - but kids here are usually with their Moms for the bulk of time. I parent VERY differently compared to his ex. And I parent very differently compared to my ex! I think as long as we are eyes wide open and keep it in discussion, we will progress. I love seeing that other familes that are bringing children from both sides are looking forward to the family and the picture as well!

    Edit for clarity!

Hahaha! Our little flower girl is four and has beautiful whiteblonde hair and also had an incident. Last winter, her friend and her were playing dress up and the friend cut little B's hair! What a disaster! It is FINALLY growing out as some parts were pretty short. B was horrified when she realized what her friend had done! She said to her little friend, "My mommy and daddy are going to flip out when they see what you did to my hair!"
