question about dress styles

I am about start looking for my dress (so excited!) and im worried about certain styles not fitting right. I am very petite, i am around 5'1"/5'2" and i know a lot of dress materials can not be cut and all. What i am really worried about is the fact that I am very "gifted" if you catch my drift. I have wanted a strapless dress since I was young,  but tube tops/strapless type shirts and dresses never worked out for me and I am really worried that a strapless wedding dress will not work for me either. What do ya'll think?

Re: question about dress styles

  • Try on dresses that you like.  Don't worry about it.  The people at the bridal salon should be able to tell you if certain alterations are possible and give you a general idea of what the results will look like.

once you start trying things on, you'll start to weed out styles that don't look good on you and find ones that do.  It's just a process of trial and error.

I agree--try things on and see what you're drawn to. I've seen many "gifted" ladies who look awesome in strapless gowns. It's important to remember that a wedding gown has a lot of structuring that will keep it from slipping like tube tops can.

Since you are petite, you'll want to keep an eye out for dresses that have a lot of detail along the hem, as these can be difficult to shorten. However, many designers offer petite sizes or will cut their gowns "hem to hollow" meaning that they're properly proportioned for you. Your consultant will be able to tell you which designers let you do this.

    Have fun shopping!
  • Keep in mind that a wedding dress will be tailored to you, with two, possibly three fittings. So it will not be the same as an off the rack tube top from H&M.  I agree with PP, try on what you like. Between better construction and materials as well as numerous dress fittings, you can probably find something that will work.
  • i agree w/ the others. try on anything that cathces your eye. you will eventuall narrow it down to styles that you like.
  • Hi, don't worry. The strapless shirt or dress don't matter how your strapless wedding dress looks like. The key is to choose the dress rightly. I think the mermaid wedding dress is the most appropriate for petite bride. The mermaid shape sits very close to the body and completely expose you curve. Never choose the ball gown style which hold you in it and make you appear more petite. Now you can campare this kind of dresses.
