  Depending on the type of chocolates- as early as you want, provided you have a proper place to store them. If you're getting stadard chocolate bar style, they last a while. If you're going more with higher end, specialty candy shops (like make it at the store type things), I'd wait until closer to the event. I would probably do it in October or November though, that way you have to worry less about storing them or them melting/breaking.
