Wedding Favors

Hi everyone!  I'm wondering what your thoughts are on wedding favors.... I would love to put the money towards a coffee/hot chocolate (+fixings) bar for my guests instead, however I'm worried about the expectation people have about getting a gift at a wedding.  Thoughts?

PS:  I love the March 2012 board.... my local one is boring, no one responds!

PSS:  There was a thread that was talking about someone being a troll?  What is that?!

Thank you!!!  :)

Re: Wedding Favors

  • we aren't doing wedding favors.  Unless it's food, I feel like they get thrown in the trash anyway.  And even the food tends to just get left, or half eaten.  (and it's not very common to do favors in the Jewish faith).

I say go with the coffee/hot chocolate bar!

I'm having a candy bar buffet and that's going to be my wedding favor.  IMHOP if you're going to do a favor, edible is the best way to go.  This way it doesn't get thrown in the trash and be wasted money.  And a troll is someone who posts on the boards trying to ruffle feathers.
  • March board rocks!!!!!!!!!!

we are havign a photobooth so i wasnt worried about favors at all but my FMIL wanted to do something so she got soem caramels, chocholates and soem nut candy we boxed them up and pu ttoole around them.  i am not placing them on the tables they will be in baskets as peopel leave or handed out by the wait staff at the end.

i think its fine, some people subsitute with a candy bar! the last two weddings i went to did not give out out true favors-one had a candy bar with a note saying donation was made to american heart assoc. i think the actual wedding reception is a big thank you for celebrating with us! but its up to you!!!!!!!

  • I think people will enjoy a coffee/chocolate bar just as much if not more than traditional favors. Any non-edible favors I've ever gotten have just gone in the trash or junk drawer. I know if it was me I would be more excited to have something extra at the actual wedding.

  • We are having a mardi gras themed wedding and are favors are feather masks and beads with our info on theme. I like that they are favors and decorations at the same time. The beads have our name & the date and I'm hoping people wear them out on bourbon st after the wedding. :)

  • I'm having a "lucky in love theme" so for favors, I am doing a lucky 2012 penny, and scratch offs. Who knows! Maybe someone will make some money! LOL.

  • We aren't doing favors (only 10 guests) but I love edible favors!  Almost every other favor has been thrown in the trash.  I did plant the wildflower seeds I got once (but they never grew) and I religiously use the starfish wine stopper I got once... but I don't think a wine stopper is a good favor unless you know that majority of your guests are winos.

Candy Buffets are a great way to do favors and your chocolate/coffee bar sounds awesome, too!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • We are doing candy, just a few kisses in a little tulle wrap with a thank you flag on it. I don't feel the need to spend the money on something that will just get tossed anyway.

  • I am doing a candy buffet as well.  The candy can be bought pretty cheap in bulk at Costco or Sam'sClub and we are just setting it up in glass vases with scoopers and little paper bags to take home a scoop full.  It's cheap and everyone loves candy!!  I think everyone on this board likes that idea and it has become very popular in the past few years...

  • I think the coffee/hot chocolate bar is a great idea! You can even put a decorative thank you sign next to it.  We are doing a small box of hersey kisses with a label stamped with our new address.
  • I make these chocolate truffles that everyone loves, so I'll be making those as favors and putting them in boxes iwth a purple (our wedding color) ribbon and a thank you tag.
  • Thanks for your advice everyone!
  • I think it will be alright to do the hot chocolate bar, but maybe create some sort of sign for each table about how in lieu of favors you will be having a delicious hot chocolate bar at yada yada time. That way they understand your thinking and don't think your cheap for no favors.
  • We're doing a candy buffet and photobooth for our favors. I think a hot chocolate bar is a great idea. I've also seen (in magazines) cute little hot chocolate favors. See here or here (<--click) for a couple ideas. Although, I totally support the full bar as well. :)
