David's Bridal policies?

Hi all!

So first of all, I'm new to the boards and The Knot! I got engaged on New Years Eve and am in major planning mode...so much so that I have already purchased my dress!
I went 2 weeks ago to David's Bridal and purchased the 3rd of 6 dresses that I tried on. It really is beautiful. I went with my mom, MIL, and sister (MOH). I'm starting to have second thoughts about the dress. I love it, but I'm worried that I chose what I did because of the group I was with.
SO! My question is, does anyone know David's Bridal's policies on exchanging gowns or how that works? They had to order my dress, but it was not scheduled to be in until August (my wedding is in October).

Thanks, all! :)

Re: David's Bridal policies?

  • From what I've seen pretty much all bridal stores are NO exchanges or refunds. If you truly aren't happy with the dress, your best bet might be to try to resell it to another bride. Best of luck!

  • No Returns, No Exchanges, No Exceptions. That's my understanding of just about every bridal store's policy. You can possibly sell it on Craigslist. Bottom line - don't buy something at David's unless you are absolutely certain that you're not going to change your mind for any reason.
  • Have you already bought it completely and have it at home with you or is it on layaway and you're making payments? I had one on layaway that I was making payments on at DB and changed my mind. They'll let you cancel it if it is on layaway but they keep $50 as a restocking fee.
  • If it is already in your posession and paid for in full, you cannot return or exchange it.  Over the weekend I overheard a conversation though.  The DB consultant said that this girl can exchange her dress and put the money toward another dress in the store.  So either way you are stuck with a DB gown.
  • I returned a dress to David's with no problems,. Talk to a manager, as long as no alterations were done it shouldn't be an issue . They will give you store credit so it's not a money back refund but better than nothing

  • I got an exchange on mine because it was a piece of crap. There were all sorts of problems with it, I bought a sample with the understanding that it would be repaired when I picked it up, which it wan't. So, I threw a fit and got a new dress. Completely different, new dress and I love it.
