Marriage Lisence?

I am wondering where to get our marriage lisence. We live in NH, but are getting married in VT. I thought I had it covered by getting it in the town that we are getting married in, but now FI's cousin said that he and his now XW got theirs in the town they live in. Now I am lost. Which one is it?

It def. depends on the state that you're getting married in.

It looks like in VT you need to get the marriage license in the county that you're getting married if you're not a VT resident

What about if you don't live in NH but are getting married there? FI and I live in VA but I grew up in NH so that's where the wedding is. I take it we go to the town hall where the wedding will be? The legal stuff befuddles me, I have to admit.

It really is a quick search on Google to find marriage license laws for anywhere you want to go.  I found Concord's page regarding marriage license laws though:

It seems as though in New Hampshire, you can apply anywhere that is convenient and get married anywhere else in the state of NH.  There is no waiting period, and the license is valid for 90 days.
