Cruise Wedding Invite Wording.....

Hey Everyone! So my FI and I decided we want to do a cruise wedding. We are planning on having the ceremony at the departing port so that not everyone has to go on the cruise to attend our wedding. I want to make sure that they understand that in the wording of the invite. I also want them to feel welcome to join us if they wish. I'm just not sure how to word it exactly. Any thoughts or ideas? Has anyone been to a cruise wedding? Thanks!

Re: Cruise Wedding Invite Wording.....

  • I don't have any wording advice for you but check with your cruise line first.  Many ships will not allow non passengers on even for a wedding.

  • I did check, they do allow non-passangers to attend. Thanks for the advice though!

My matron of honor had her wedding on a Carnival Cruise line boat.

As you said, OP, non-passengers were allowed to attend; we just had to leave at a certain time so that the boat could start loading passengers. My friend's reception was in one of the banquet halls on the ship.

Unfortunately, I don't remember what her invite looked like, so I'm not much help with the wording... Maybe you could include the ending time on the invite and mention that guests will need to leave because the boat will need to prepare for boarding? The wedding coordinator on the cruise line may be a good help with this. I'm sure they've helped brides with this before or have seen their invitations.

My friend really enjoyed doing her wedding this way. It was less stressful, affordable, and she got to leave for the honeymoon a only a couple of hours after the celebration. Have a great time!

ETA: The knottie that posted after me reminded me of this - my MOH included a lot of information about the procedures for boarding the boat including what kind of identification we had to have with us. Again, I'd talk to the coordinator on the boat before prepping invitations so that you give the guests all the info they need.
