NWR: Chinese Drywall.

I've heard there's no remedy for a house that has had chinese drywall. Is this true? If anybody knows anthing, let me know. By the way this had nothing to do with my parents' new humble abode, it's just some research I'm doing on the side.

There's not. You basically have to rip down all the walls, take out all the insulation and re-build. No fun...

Like Court said, no solution. It's not even worth buying a house built with Chinese Drywall. And best not to hold your breath that the seller or bank (if it's a foreclosure) will do anything about it.

Lacey, Chinese Drywall is just drywall that was imported from China, but like all things Chinese made as of late, it's crapola. It has some sort or chemical or some toxin or something that cause people to get sick.

Let's put it this way. Scott and I have been looking at homes. We found a beautiful 7/7 on an acre of land in west boca in a very affluent neighborhood. It was going for 200,000! They originally bought it for almost 2 million! You would have to knock all the walls down that had them in it, and then you get into electrical etc.

you literally have to spend a ridic amount to take down every walll - re-drywall it and plaster. it's very tedious and pricey.

My law firm does dry wall work...... the only cure is to rip it down and replace it. AND replace all copper/alloy piping tubing and electrial stuff that corrodes with the fumes the drywall emits -

IF they are selling homes with confirmed dry wall issues the buying will always be taking on the expense of curing the issue~ but if you have some money to invest you might get a nice newly contructed home for significantly less than its worth - consider it a brand new fixer upper!

Agreed with what all of the ladies have said.
We found a house that we absolutely loved and found out we had to fork the bill for fixing the drywall. It's not that big of a house and our qupte was around $30,000.

Yeah... needless to say, we changed our minds. lol

My MOH bought a new house in late 2008, and before she moved in, found out that it had all chinese drywall because her wiring was already starting to corrode! If you've seen any of the Palm Beach Post's articles on chinese drywall, I'm sure she's in almost every one of them because she was the first one to file a lawsuit, and now it's turned into a huge class-action lawsuit.

There's really nothing you can do besides riping out all the drywall, replacing the wiring that could be corroded, and then replace the drywall. She was getting horrible headaches and even nosebleeds from being in the house to move the furniture in, so she can't even live there, but still has to pay the mortgage. It's terrible!

a good friend of mine was just buying a house....and her realtor wouldnt even let her look at houses that were made in the year the chinese dry wall was a possiblity its impossible rip down start over...
