Beaches in Ct...

My friends and I are planning a little getaway in ct. We are staying in Griswold and was wondering if there are any good beaches within a 40 mile radius. TIA!

I'd actually head over to Westerly, RI and go to misquamicut (sp?) if you're going to be in Griswold.

completely agreed!!!  RI beaches are soooooo much nicer than CT beaches.  DH and I have been doing the drive to RI since we met, it's so worth it!

i'd recommend Watch Hill, my personal favorite, but the parking there sucks.  you basically have to pay $20/day to park, and the bathrooms/food are a bit of a walk from the beach.  however, Watch Hill is closest to CT and IMHO it's the nicest beach.

if you're up for a bit of a drive, try Narragansett Town Beach.  it's about 30 minutes up Route 1, but it's cheaper to park and they have bathrooms/food/etc right on the beach.

you could always do Misquamicut too...i prefer not to go there though.  it's kinda run down and dumpy.  but there's a lot in the way of ice cream shops and like, kids amusement parks and mini golf, etc etc etc.  it's got almost a boardwalk feel along the road...

yes ditto RI beaches..much cleaner than CT..FI and I go to Misquamicut at least a few times a summer.

We also like the beaches in Newport, but that's a little further if you're coming from Griswold.

When FI and I lived in Groton/Mystic, we usually went to RI beaches.. Misquamicit and etc. New London's Ocean State isn't that bad... but it costs $$ to get in.

Personally, I'd rather go to the Cape, Nantucket, or MV- the beaches are gorgeous!

Ditto to everyone else...Sound View beach in Old Lyme is a good one too, but from Griswold that is a bit of a drive down 395-S/95-S (about your limit of 40 minutes ish)...but Ocean Beach and all the RI beaches are good suggestions

I actually love Hammonasset Beach State Park- if you wanna stay in CT. Westerly is probably closer though. Its about 49 miles from Griswold, so it's not that bad and it's always really clean and I like the parking situation.
