Flower girl dresses

I am having a problem with flower girl dresses. I have 2 flower girls- one is my 4 year old niece and the other is my FH's 9 year old cousin (her 2 sisters are in the wedding so we couldn't just leave her out). We went to David's Bridal today and the Bridesmaid all picked out their dresses and then we went to look at flower girl dresses and the largest size they have is a size 14 kids and she needs a size 14 adult! She's large for her age and I felt really bad because the 4 year old had on a really cute dress that everyone liked but they both cannot wear that dress. So I was thinking of maybe finding a white bridesmaid dress online or something and then she can have the length altered. But, then can the 2 flower girls have on different dresses? We did think about having her be a JR. bridesmaid but we already have 1 jr. bridesmaid and no jr. groomsmen so my FH and I don't want to have 8 bridesmiads and 6 groomsmen. So, my final question is, should I have the 2 flower girls wear 2 different dresses? And if anyone else has had this problem, where did you get the dress?

Re: Flower girl dresses

  • Use a communion dress?  You've got so much time that you can really get a cute one for really cheap and maybe change it and put a shash on it in your wedding colors.  That's what I'm doing with my flower girl's dress.  They should have larger sizes if you look online especially since there are people out there in 8th grade and older doing communion and confirmation.  Also maybe look for a plain white sun dress come summer?  (Or probably even now with how early stores are putting things out)  Another thing is that a lot of girls in HS have to have white dresses for their graduation. There are lots of options that have nothing to do with weddings.  Save some money and get a dress that will look well on her.

Also, have you considered making her a junior bridesmaid?  She's old enough it would work then you're not trying to squeeze her into a dress she may not want.

Just some suggestions!  Hope one of them work! =)

  • Well, she really wants to be a flower girl so I'm trying to make sure she can still be one. I didn't think of trying communion dresses! Thanks for the tip, I'll look at those!
  • I have 2 flower girls, one is my 2 yr old goddaughter and the other is 5 years old. The 2 yr old is going to be in all white and I have the 5 year old wearing a different dress in the colors toactually match the bridemaids, but she'll walk as if she's a slower girl. I think that it's ok to have the flower girls in different dresses. My FG's dresses are from 2 different stores, 1 is from alfred angelo and the other from david's bridal.

  • Try Craigslist!  They are inexpensive and my sister has gotten her 3 kids' wedding attire there for 2 weddings now.  They don't match, but the two girls wear white dresses and they look adorable.  Of course, be very careful with Craigslist, but it is definitely a money-saver :)
