Goldfish Centerpieces - (NWR)

sort of.

As this is such a bone of contention around these parts - I just had to share.

My neice had her Sweet 16 party on Saturday with a Willy Wonka theme.  It was lots of fun.  At a previous party she went to, the guest of honor had goldfish centerprieces and thought it was really cute (UGH!) and wanted to do  the same.

Since it was a Willy Wonka party and everything had to be edible - my sister made them out of jello and Swedish fish...I thought it was brilliant.

Anyhoo - Happy Monday!

That's a cute idea, and definitely more ethical than live goldfish centerpieces.

I thought so too.  I told her about how much debate goes on here about them and that I would have to post about her alternate method.

That's pretty cute. They wouldn't last long around me though. Jello and sweedish fish are two of my favorite foods. :)

That is about a thousand times better then what I was expecting to read.

That's absolutely adorable, and way more creative then sticking a live fish on the table - Brava to your niece!

Live peacocks?  Please don't tell me someone really thought about doing that.

I think I've heard it all.  It's one thing to have a wedding at a location that may already have them, but to actually go out of your way to rent them.  Yikes!

[QUOTE]Yea, the peacock thread is ridiculous.

You obviously only find it ridiculous because you're lower-class Rach. CLEARLY peacocks are the epitome of fanciness.
Tut tut, good sir! *salutes with monocle*.

When we eventually meet, I vote we buy top hats, monocles and canes and just walk around the streets going "I say!" and "You are a gentleman and a scholar!". In fact, I demand that this happens.

I don't know, but I'm seriously considering taking a Saturday to drive down there.

This is a really cute idea especially when you consider the theme.

kjhowd, can you post the process (if you have it)?  I'd love to have it in my repetoire (and I agree duds, I'd totally spike the jell-o).

This such a cute idea and tasty. Much better then real ones. I had seen it talked about on the boards before, but never been anywhere they actually used goldfish. Went to a wedding last year and they had to have like thirty of them, by the time the reception actually got going I'd say half had already died. It was horrific, and all I could think about was there are dead fish at the time while people eat. Swedish fish and jello sound much better.

YOU CAN RENT A PENGUIN?  How did I not know this, its amazing!

Also I had peacocks at my wedding, I didn't know this was horribly wrong (though they and the geese and swans and such all lived there, so its not like I could have avoided them) but they were really annoying.  People think a baby can be loud during your vows, try a peacock.
