Custom dress

I recently found out that my FI and I are going to have to cut back the dress budget. I've been having some difficulty finding dresses that I like, and now with a tighter budget, I'm hoping to have more than just the chain bridal stores to choose from. The more I look at dresses online, and the more styles I see, the more depressed I get. I can't seem to find one that gives me that "Wow!" moment. So I'm thinking it might be time to have my own style of dress made.

Any suggestions are appreciated, or tips on where to go for dresses under $1000 (and no smarty-pants answers like $999 ha ha). Thanks!

A friend of mine bought hers on ebay. She saw it in a bridal magazine, tracked down the style number at a store, and monitored ebay for awhile until a close size showed up. She lucked out because it was new from a bridal store that was downsizing and getting rid of slighly older merchandise.

If you're in the York or Lancaster area, I gotcha covered...

In White Bridal, Harrisburg Ave., Lancaster - I got my dress here and it was $635, now her alterations start at $250, but you don't have to use her. I give this store five stars. :)

Krys Lynn's, Market Street, York - Big selection, variety of price ranges. Street parking only so bring some change. Good store, just didn't have my dress.

Bridal Emporium - on the main drag in Elizabethtown. GREAT selection, great service, just didn't have my dress

Lilla's - LOVE HER! My MOH got her dress there. Dresses start at $800 but she'll take care of you. However, she is out right now to have a tumor removed. She'll be back in March and her store is still open. Her daughter in law (I think) is also pretty nice and is running things in the mean time.

Can't remember prices for these two but here:
Reifsnyders - its in down town Lancaster. Alright shop, just didn't have my dress.

Weddings By Paulette - in Millersville. OK selection and service

I don't suggest Premier Bridal in Shiloh - she's basically just a private Alfred Angelo dealer. Also, I do NOT suggest Renaissance Bridal. Besides being waaaay pricey, they were mean to my MOH.

I think there's a shop in Lititz and one in Hershey too but I never went. Hope this helps!

I'm getting that feeling about Renaissance as well, and the only experience I had with them was at the bridal shows I've been to. At a bridal show... I mean come on, they have to be nice to you then, right? Apparantly no. They were very snobby and they made me feel like crap just for looking. I won't be going there ever.

I have the same feeling about Renaissance.

On the other hand, the dress I loved at Lillas was 300 dollars cheaper at J and B Bridals in Chambersburg.  It's a little bit of a hike, but it is WELL worth it in my opinion!!  The exact same dress was so much less!!

Tara's Bridal in Camp Hill sells all sample gowns. I barely saw any dreses over $1000. I tried one on that was only $200 (!). I didn't find my dress there, but I think it's worth checking them out.

You could try Tara's in Camp Hill - they carry only sample dress from $100 and up.  I got my dress there and loved it - I always say it's not for everyone but it might be worth checking out if you're budget has been cut.  They are wonderful there - I worked with Teresa.  I've also heard Taylored for You is great - not sure what their prices are like though.  Good Luck!!

EDIT: While I didn't pay less than $1000 for my dress at Tara's I tried on a couple that I really liked (just wasn't "the one") that were in the $600-$800 range.

Rumer and I think alike :) I got my dress at Taylored for You. She had some for under $1000, but not the same selection you could try on at Tara's. Most of TFY were over $1000 I think, or would be with alternations.
