First time posting! Need DJ recs for Oahu

Hi, everyone!!!!!

I've been reading this forum for over a year, but haven't really started planning until a couple of months ago.  :)  It's kind of exciting to post for the first time!!

I was wondering if any brides (former or to-be's!) have any recommendations for a DJ for my wedding reception on Oahu.  My guests are probably not a hardcore dancing group, but I would love someone to be there to cue all the music (grand entrance, first/parent dances, dinner, cake cutting, etc) rather than ipod-ing it.  Also, it would be nice to have someone with AV equipment knowledge since I have been to a few weddings that have had issues in that area with no one who could help troubleshoot.

I'm curious about how much a DJ would cost, too. :(

Thank you in advance, everyone!!! :)

    Hi!
We got married in June & went with ND Mixx Productions. They're a husband & wife team. We went with them mainly b/c they were in our price range. $1000. We only had 46 people total, so they knocked off a couple hundred I believe to get us to the 1000. Anyway, Fran & Gil were great, he brought in 2 set ups, 1-ceremony, & 1-reception,  had wireless mic for the minister, a hand mic for us to read our vows. He also accomodated our Guitarist (Henry Makua) so he could plug in for the ceremony music. The transition b/w ceremony & reception was seamless...guests enjoyed the music & had a good time. He was great on the mic.

One thing to watch when booking a DJ (no matter who you book) Is whether or not the DJ also is the MC of the night. Some DJ's are shy & don't do the announcing & such...so look for someone who does both :)

    HTH's! Happy Planning!

I've heard good things about ND Mixx as well. I also have communicated with Joe at CJ's Mobile DJ and I think he'd be a great choice, he has a blog full of videos of weddings he's done.
I chose to use Teley at Showtime DJ's, they actually get out on the dance floor and perform (if you want them to) as well as DJ and Emcee. I chose my DJ due to his high energy and ability to perform and potentially bring guests, many of which don't know each other, together and make them feel comfortable to get out of their shells and have a good time.
From my experience shopping for a DJ/Emcee, I have found the average price to be in the range of $1000 on the low end and $1800 on the high. But it depends on the package you choose and whether you want them to just DJ or also Emcee.
