Grooms gift...check!

Last night I made part one of FI's groom's gift.  I made a "newlywed map" for us to mark off all of the places we've been together.  I got the idea here: http://heatherdrive.blogspot.com/2009/09/world-is-ours.html

Originally, I was going to do a world map, but the chances of us filling much up outside the US is probably pretty slim.  If we do ever go anywhere not on the map, I'll probably add a little "flag" with the name and pin it in one of the open spaces on the map.  So here's the one I made, and marked with places we've already been.

Outside of Las Vegas, pretty much everything is in the North East.  But I'm very excited to be able to have us mark off Maui in just a few weeks!

The other part of his gift I had made about a month ago.  He's so difficult to buy anything for, so I thought I'd go with something a little different.  I had a bobblehead of us custom made.  I know he's going to love it and he'll probably end up putting it on his desk at work. Obviously, you guys don't know what we look like, but trust me, they did a great job!

The map I'm going to send to his dad's house with his sisters before the wedding.  I'm going to surprise him with the bobblehead at the reception.  I'll probably have them either set it up on the head table or the cake table.

Thanks!  The bobblehead is really his gift.  But 1) I wanted something to give him before the wedding and 2) I really wanted to make the map :)

I got the bobblehead from whoopassenterprises.com
A friend of mine had custom dolls made for each of the groomsmen in their wedding as their gift.  They're a bit expensive even if you just do their basic body (and ours was even more expensive to do the custom wheelchair), but he's going to love it!

Love it!  Where and how did you make the map?  Did you just do what the website did?

I thought about the bobbleheads, but they were a little out of my pricerange.  But they are really cool!  i especially love that they were able to customize it and do the wheelchair- you would be suprised how many places "ignore" requests from disabled people (I am sure you know what I mean).  Glad you were able to get exactly what you wanted!

I pretty much exactly followed the website.

-I bought the US map from the National Geographic website
-I bought the presentation foam board from Michaels, and cut off the two fold out sides to have the right size (40% off coupon, of course)
-I bought the frame from Michaels when they all their wall frames 40% off, plus one of their extra 25% off all frames coupons that come out occasionally
-Then I spray glued the foam, laid out the map, took the glass out of the frame and slid in the map and put the back on.  Voila!  It took me all of 15 minutes to make.

Oh, and I bought the map tacks online somewhere.  I forget the site, but you can get them just about anywhere.
