Getting in Shape

Don't want to get stuck..

I seem to have this pattern of losing no more than 5 pounds, then gaining/not losing for 3-4 weeks before losing again. I think maybe I just so tired of watching what I eat? I know last week was thanksgiving, so I gained a little, and this week I am back to what I was before thanksgiving (155), so that's two weeks of not losing.
I just want to make sure I stick with this even though it's the holidays. This weekend was not so good, which I am attributing to end of semester celebrations AND being sick AND being on my period.
I also finished the 30 Day Shred on Friday, and I don't feel like I saw the results I wanted- I didn't lose more weight or inches while doing it than I would have just by dieting. I guess I'm feeling sort of frustrated, which leads to the "screw the diet" mentality and leads to gaining/not losing.
I made two dress appointments for the end of the month, so hopefully that motivates me to stay on track..

  • Sounds like you've reached a plateau. Don't worry, everyone has them one time or another. Just keep with your current diet, but try to mix up your workouts a bit.

If you belong to a gym and they have kettlebells, give them a try! You can look up some moves with kettlebells online; they're Russian in origin and are really good for engaging your whole body in a single movement. Because this is pretty different from the typical workout, it causes lots of "muscle confusion" which is exactly what you need to break out of a plateau!

Keep it up and good luck!! Laughing

  • Weight loss is accomplished in 70% in the kitchen and 30% in the gym.  The BEST thing you can do in the gym is lift weights... lift as heavy as you can.  Trust me you WON'T get big... but you will get fit.  Focus on doing squats, weighted lunges, lat pull downs (or pull ups work the same muscle group), pushups and russian twists for your waist.  These exercises work some of the biggest muscles in your body and will get you the best results.  Also, KB is a GREAT workout like spazticrexe said...  Doing these things will increase your base metabolic rate, something that cardio doesn't do.

In the kitchen... heres my advice.  Cook large qtys of chicken on Sunday evening.  Then throughout the week pack your lunch using a chicken breast, and throw in some frozen veggies with it in a tupperware.  Microwave for 2 min... tuh duh... healthy eating mid-week.    We do this at our house and its great.  Saves us time for only needing to cook and clean once... as well as money because we aren't eating out!
