Caramel or Candied Apple favors

My fiance and I are getting married in October the weekend before Halloween. I didn't want to buy a bunch of bubbles or matches that people will just throw away so I decided it would be fun to have either caramel or candy apples as favors. I definately like caramel apples best but I want them to be bright red. Is there any way to make that happen or will I have to go the candy apple route? Our colors are black and ivory with a touch of crimson and orange so that's why I want the red apples. I think they'll make a cute accent. Any ideas?

Have you checked out Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory or some other place?  They can get real fancy there, and if you want red/orange you can always roll it in red hots (apple/cinnamon flavor) or if you want black you can dip in dark chocolate.

One thing to check out though is if your venue allows outside foods to be brought in.  Many do not.  And another thing to factor if DIY is the time that will go into these.

Can you mix and match? I think it'd be easier to dye the caramel black if you are DYI (especially at Halloween time they have black food dye readily available, but it'd be cheaper to buy wholesale).  Then the candy apples would be the red you're going for too.

I would do a mixture of both.

simple solution that I am using....use red celophane to wrap your caramel apples. The celophane is sparkley and you can tie it with a coordinating ribbon. I am also using my apples as place card holders by attaching the cards to the skewer. I don't like the idea of coloring the caramel..I don't think you would get a true red color or if you did it would be very dark and frankly my be a little scary for some people to eat. I like food that looks "normal". In the long-run colored celophane is cheaper and a lot less work. Hope this helps!

The idea of red cellophane is great. I was going to suggest using a ribbon with the red to tie it. I also think a mixture of both caramel and candied would be a good idea as not everyone likes caramel. Also are you inviting many older guest who might find it hard to eat? I'm just thinking if anyone have dentures it could be hard to eat the caramel.

Love the red cellophane idea! That would work perfectly, and make my job so much easier. I didn't think that the red dye would get it bright enough but this will work even better. Thanks @MrsKevers! What would I do without my knottie input ;)

fyi lots of places do have red caramel apples...DaffyApple has them. but I wanted bigger apples, so I am going with the Rocky Mountain ones...they are 6.00/each here.  We are going for the fancy swizzled chocolate ones.

@Fysty! You are my savior! I just went to the daffyapple website and they have bulk red caramel so I can make my own apples without all that mess and mixing. It's exactly my vision. I liked the red cellophane idea, but I'm so glad I can just make my own red caramel now :)

I LOVE this idea! A friend  of mine used candy apples as her favors. I suggest the gourmet cany apples from the specialty shops with chocolate and peanuts; they might even do colors to match your decor!
