Alton Jones Environmental Ed Center?

Hi all,
Just curious to see if anyone has anything to say about this place. We're already committed to it, but just curious to see if anyone's been there (aside from field trips), eaten there, etc.
We've seen the casual menu (barbecue-type food), but are curious about something just a little more formal.
Also, any decor info would be most appreciated.
Thanks! :)

I've never hard of anyone doing a Wedding there but I have been there and it's a great location. As far as a different location, there is a outdoor possibility in Exeter that is more formal and beautiful called "Gerald's Farm"

<div>How is that helpful? She already said she's committed to Alton Jones. Why tell her there's a more beautiful outdoor site than hers?</div><div>
</div><div>To the OP, I read somewhere that you can have a New England-style clamboil there. The variety of menus at the Whispering Pines site is really good and, since it's in the same location (so probably the same catering?), I don't see why you can't work with them to create a menu your guests will love.</div>

I have been to Whispering Pines at the Alton Jones Campus and the food was really good.

I agree with KB, I am pretty sure that you can change up the menu the same way you can at Whispering pines.

    Beautiful location

BTW- I would't read any review from RBproductions-- he's a vendor

I also am planning on a wedding at the environmental ed center at Alton Jones for this upcoming sept. I fell in love with the entire area, I feel that theres so much space to work with, my only stress is hoping that it doesn't rain, because I want my guests to party all day and night there, and not be stuck in the lodge. I also loved it because there aren't all of those crazy rules that most wedding venues have. I told Linda what I was looking for and she was wonderful about everything. I personally can't see spending a crazy amount of money for a 5 hr. wedding, I loved the idea of being able to have this facility all day and night. I hope this helps you.

    Thanks everyone!

(And I had to laugh at the reaction to the 1st post. I thought the same thing, "Didn't I say I had committed?" But that's okay.)

I totally agree lornajaymes1. By the way, have you seen anything but the barbecue menu yet? I talked to Linda last week kind of generally about decorations and it sounds like she's pretty open. I'm not thinking anything elaborate, just stringing up some lights and or lantern/banner type things that I can make on my own. Plus the DJ said that he could do some uplighting which would be a great help.

Alton Jones seems like a little known gem in the local venue choices so far! :)

I  only saw the BBQ menu, but  i think she said that we can customize it a bit. We pretty much were looking for the casual type food that our friends and family could pick on all day and night. I love the firepit for when it gets dark out , I was thinking about lining the path with some kind of illuminaries. When is your wedding date  Katy? I really wanted sept. because I would like to think that maybe it won't be ridiculous hot out ,but it won't be too cold either. Are you going to decorate the lodge as well, or just outside? I am trying to figure that out as well.

lornajaymes1, mine's 9-24-11.   :) And our thinking was the same as yours in that it's a comfortable time of year with all those clothes on.
Talking to Linda this past week she was going to let me know what other choices were available for the food (I think anything Whiispering Pines can do, they can do at Env. Ed., but god knows what the price tag goes to).
As far as decor, I had only thought about the inside so far, but yeah, probably the luminaries are a simple way to dress up the outside, weather permitting. The DJ's going to do some uplighting, which I think will help really dress up the inside. I'd like it to look reasonably nice, but really I'm just trying to keep the fam quiet. Ha ha! I don't think it's going to take much.
Did Linda tell you that the fire pit is also weather permitting? Basically, it has to be humid enough or else it's a fire hazard. But I do hope that we all get to have the right weather for it! :)

Have you booked your date yet? Got your dress? :)
